I've just sumbled across this through the newsnow website and it speaks very promising of a Spurs youngster. Although it's a local article likely to want to push forward their local product, the accolades he has picked up sound very interesting and point towards a good talent:

THE future looks bright for a top young footballer from Hemel Hempstead.

Cavendish School pupil Harry Winks has celebrated completing GCSEs by starting an apprenticeship at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and earning a national call-up.

Harry finished his final exam to the news that he had been selected for the England U17 squad for the Nordic Tournament in the Faroe Islands in August.

Harry said “I am nervous about representing my country but it has been a long term goal to play for England and I am looking forward to meeting up with the squad at the end of July, collecting my kit and starting my international career.”

England have been drawn in Group A alongside the Faroe Islands, Finland and Norway.

Harry has been part of Tottenham’s academy since he started at Cavendish in 2007, and he has managed to juggle a strict training regime alongside his studies.

Mr Woodard, curriculum leader for PE at Cavendish, said: “Harry has been a model student at Cavendish, he seems to take everything in his stride and I enjoy listening to his weekly updates.

“He is very level-headed and has always seen the importance of completing his school work and staying on track.

“We as a school are very proud of Harry’s achievements.

“His international call-up is fantastic news for Harry and his family, who are totally committed to supporting him in achieving all his ambitions.”

Harry’s talents have been recognised all over the continent – he received the Midfielder of the Tournament Award when on tour in Latvia and was voted player of the tournament in Spain when he came up against European giants Barcelona and Zenit St Petersburg.

Mick Tizard, assistant headteacher at Cavendish said: “We are looking forward to seeing Harry when he comes back into school to see us in September.

“It is great for the school to have a role model that our students can aspire to, we wish him all the best over the coming months and beyond at Tottenham.”

Harry is now based in Enfield and trains full time every day.

He comes back to Hemel at weekends to get some rest and spend valuable time with friends and family.

Harry added: “Pre-season has been hard so far but luckily the second year apprentices warn us of what we have in store with regards to the fitness tests.”
Anyone heard of the lad? Spurcat?

Good article GDD.

I have heard of him and I have read club reports on him but I've not seen him play yet. We actually have 3 players from the club in that England under 17 squad which is a positive sign that beyond the first team, we might be doing something right.

Hopefully the training facilities will help to push these lads on and with the emphasis that Levy is now putting on technqiue through appointing AVB and his high calibre coaches we may find less youngsters failing to break through!

Hi Spurcat, sorry for taking so long to reply, out of office. I don't know if you recall but I think we discussed this before on FB or the old 606 as I lived in a place called Cambourne near Cambridge having moved from Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.

I still live around that area so no closer to the club, but having broken out of the education system i've been able to acquire more tickets to games and have started using a lot of resources to pick up more information regarding the club <ok>

Still envy your connections though of course :)

His family are going with him, and half of Ireland practically live on the Spanish coast anyway. Plus communications and social media are a lot better when that Jamie lad went over, as broadband was just taking off proper back then and was hard to come by, so I don't think homesickness would be an issue.

My better half works for a 5 star hotel chain and had to go to Tahiti for 6 weeks to help oversee an opening of a resort, and apart from her physical absence we spoke each day via webcam, which made it more bearable.:emoticon-0111-blush

success at a high level in football is about so much more than raw talent as 13 year old. You have to have the desire, will power, mental capabilities and a dose of luck with injuries etc etc.
I wouldn't be surprised if we never hear of that kid again. I'm not gonna cry about Spurs missing out.

Exactly spurfectionist, it's a bit of a lottery. Most youngsters scouted up have the talent and skills but it often comes down to the mentality under the pressure of a match scenario. That cannot be taught at the highest level.
