The only other possibility is a striker with prem experiance which then could open up to someone maybe like kevin doyle. All I know is, as CH has stated we are in the market for a striker now we are probably going to be linked with so many!
Re. Guidetti. The unidentified viral infection badly affected his right leg. It was apparently touch and go whether he would regain any feeling in the leg, or even whether he might lose the use of it altogether. I don't know what the latest situation is but it seems extremely unlikely that he is anywhere near back to full fitness, and there must be a question mark over whether he will ever get back to where he was. So unless someone has detailed knowledge of the situation I think we and everyone else can forget about him this season. [Edit] Oops sorry Goldeneye! My post edited now.
i like doyle. i'd take him for anything under £5m, which isn't likely to happen seeing as wolves sell all their players at double their worth
The only thing I can add is that Lambert and Culverhouse were looking at him while still with us; Culverhouse was said to be in Norway for that purpose at the time of the England friendly. Reports are that Villa are looking to sign another striker this week, so he might still be a Lambert target. Wonder if he and Tettey are buddies by any chance. If it came to a straight choice between us and Villa, that would be interesting. We might actually win out on that one IMO.
I'm not sure what to think, to be honest. I don't know whether Abdellaoue is a player that Ewan Chester found while he was with us the first time, or whether he is someone that Lambert knew anyway. If he isn't a Chester find, I very much doubt there is anything in this story. James Nursey (Midlands journo that isn't the greatest) said on TalkSport last night that he expected Villa to make a £4m bid for a European striker this week, so I don't know whether he's talking about Abdellaoue or not.
I think that Abdellaoue might be the one we get - he'd be a lower cost option than Doyle (who I like but will cost at least £5m- £6m in current Wolves valuations) and will offer us something different up front. I wonder who will be leaving us - either permannently or on loan this week ?
There are rumours on Twitter this morning that Sheffield Wednesday are going to bid £2.75m for Leon Barnett Don't believe them obviously, but I would give him a piggy back all the way from Carrow Road to Hillsborough for £2.75m
Barny played well on Saturday and looked comfortable alongside Bassong which is amazing really considering they probably hadn't spent more than five minutes together on the training ground. I like Barny - honest, reliable, gives you 100% and if his distribution was a bit more cultured he'd be a possible starter for me but ...... £2.75m is a lot to turn down when we are in the market for a new striker. I'd be sorry to see him go but money talks doesn't it ?
Barnett is a funny one. He'll play like he did Saturday one game, yet the next, he'll look out of place in League Two! There is no way we would get £2.75m for Barnett, surely!?!?
Transfermarkt value him at £2.2m so, given the crazy prices being paid right now, who knows. You'd think Ward would be a better buy for Wednesday though. Wonder if we'll see Bassong and Barnett paired again tonight. And while we are into Gossip, the Birmingham Mail is saying Genk's 21-year-old international striker Christian Benteke has emerged as a leading target for Aston Villa (i.e. not Abdellouae), and the Daily Fail are reporting that goalkeeper Bunn is on his way to us from Blackburn for £1M .......
2nd season in the Prem probably increases the value of any player. Thats a price the Owls would have to contemplate. He did play well Saturday and did try and play the ball out without looking to advance himself. His accuracy was better than Martins for instance. He deserves another chance on that performance. And I don't think we need to be selling CB's to buy a striker. Maybe one of the midfiled might be moved on. Hoolahan or Fox maybe, they would both have value.
Indeed - it's a small wonder that Lambert hasn't been in for Foxy already - still time I suppose. How's lie in Cornwall Redruth ? Lived in Porthtowan for a year in the 80's - lovely place - remember it with a lot of affection.
haha, watch this inspirational video, if it doesnt change your mind, nothing will. I do remember he was all in favour of the ROEDER OUT brigade. Thats got to be worth something. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ImIRQC_A3c
I'll never forget his open goal miss on the opening home game of the 08-09 season against Blackpool - worst miss I've ever seen. He did redeem himself a week later with a brace against Cardiff way I seem to recall. Trying to erase that season from my memory and the mention of Lupoli's name has brought it all back
Drove through Porthtowan yesterday funnily enough. Fatal accident on the A30 so went the back roads. Lovely beach at Porthtowan. One of our running buddies has a house facing out to sea there. Very nice too. Lots of new bars there as the surfing fraternity adopted it until Watergate Bay became popular.
It used to make me laugh how a lot of people thought he was going to be our saviour purely because he came from Arsenal and had an Italian name which meant he just had to be a player, when actually he was pretty toilet and no better than anything we already had. Where is he currently plying his trade?
When I lived there it was 2 bars, a club, 2 shops, a chippie, a Post Office and one telephone kiosk. Bet it's changed a lot but still a lovely place I'm sure - the beach was fabulous.
