Bloody hell guys, Bony was on the bench because Laudrup felt we had to contain Arsenals midfield by having more dedicated midfielders, I don't personally agree with not selecting him but its clear that Laurup is tactically astute and knows better than us all. As for players passing to Michu instead of Bony, I just don't see that sorry, all my recollections of final balls going into those two have been to hit the man with the most space, Bony tends to be surrounded with defenders hence why we seem to score when he is on the pitch, he is creating space for other players . Michu is also the most unselfish player ive seen in a swans shirt , if the better pass is on he gives it . We played a great game yesterday apart from a 5 min spell. As mentioned in another forum Canas totally nullified ozil and was stuck to him pretty mch until he got subbed, it stifled the £42m man to the point where he had no impact and got subbed, people talk about tactics, well th\t was tactics right there and laudrup has got no credit for it! If we had gone toe to toe with arsenal we would have lost imo, we controlled the ball and while not creating a load of chances the tactical approach was spot on I reckon . Arsenal are on fire these days and I feel that the Swans are now being treated with total respect by these teams who are making sure they bring the A game when they play us , we are not a team the big teams expect to roll over but a team they will seriously target as a below par performance from them will mean a defeat . Time to realise this and concern ourselves with the food and drink of the premier league, these games were alwys bonus games and we are fractions away from competing with some of the worlds best , to read some peoples comments you would swear we just lost 0-8 and got totally out played, nobody has out played us and we were unlucky not to get more from the game yesterday
Some of Laudrups words ,defending the reason not to start Bony yesterday. ": "It's logical, we needed players in midfield. When you face Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, they have good midfield players so you need players in that area." Bony eventually came on for Shelvey in the 61st minute and shortly afterwards, Arsenal grabbed their crucial second goal through Ramsey. Laudrup felt a lack of concentration during a short spell in the second half had proved costly." I understand his reasons, I don't understand the reaction from some of our jack faithful though . We should cut the man a bit of slack imo . He said: "We did well in the first half, but we defended too deep for the first goal, there were a lot of bodies but when you are that deep one or two quality players can create a chance like they did.
Food for thought for anyone who thinks they are better qualified than Sir Michael Laudrup - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ager-according-stats.html?ico=sport^headlines
So we try to contain Arsenal's midfield (and fail) at the cost of completely gutting our own attack. Genius.
Well 2 things there. the first one being that hindsight is a wonderful thing and give a 10 min spell that tactics to contain worked well and the second thing being that how the hell can you say our attack was gutted when we played a guy called michu up front who played plenty of games in that position and scored from that position more than once last season ? hardly gutting our attack is it ? Yet again another total over reaction to us losing to a top club like Arsenal imo . We will have our days against big teams but I believe they view us as a threat these days so don't turn up to us half baked like they have done in the past. the sooner people realise this the better and lower the expectation will be . We are not a top 6 club, we will be lucky to finish in the top half ! we have invested massively just to stand still and compared to other teams we have spent small, lets remember that we have no right to hammer the likes of Arsenal at home, same as was wrongly mentioned about their defence being weak, its actually the 2nd best in the premier league ! that's exactly the kind of thing that starts to boil my piss , we are Swansea and while it pisses me off when we lose you do have to sometimes credit the opposition, since when have we become berty big bollocks bad losers ? we could and perhaps should have taken a point from this game, we didn't which was a shame , we lost to a team that cost 4 times the amount of our team so lets just remember that we wont win them all
We controlled midfield except for the 5 to 10 minute break down in the second half and we failed to capitalize on that pressure not because our offense was gutted but because our service into the box in the final third was total crap. We could have had John Charles leading the line and we wouldn't have done any better given the abysmal quality of the crosses that we were making.
It's also obvious that JDG is fcuking useless in the tackle area and a piss poor 50/50 attempt that led to one of the goals and that ML should have taken him off instead of Jonjo who was having a really good game
Norway, we may as well not bother mate, we may as well just join in and blame Laudrup, forget for a moment that we were playing Arsenal, and pretend we are a huge club that have a divine right to beat these clubs. Then we may end up on the same wave length as some others. It's a good job we didn't lose to West Brom at home like the Champions, else these would all be in absolute raptures and telling us they are going to go support Cardiff. Hindsight seeing as the tackle you mention was AFTER jonjo went off the pitch Which up until that point, JDG (you know im his biggest fan lol) hadn't been doing too bad.
Have to disagree there Lone, other than Ramsay, I don't think Ozil and Wiltshire troubled our midfield at all.
He could easily become the buy of the season for me. Incredible how we have signed him on a free transfer
agree. the arsenal midfield was sewn up for pretty much the whole game. you can include the fact canas nullified 42m pound man ozil , yes they scored 2 goals and won the game but if you look at the game it was a short brief spell where their world class shone through
Can we blame Shelvey and his lack of effort getting back for the first goal? Because the gy who gets the assist (cant remember who it was) jogs right past shelvey in the build up And instead of tracking the man (his job) he basically stands still
I just there has been a slight over reaction to a defeat against Arsenal , these days people seem to be forgetting where we are in terms of stature. We are the smallest team in the prem league with the lowest budget and still spending less on wages and transfer fees than most others , how does that give us the right to beat teams like Arsenal Spurs and Man utd ? Sure we will get the odd result, but only when they are off their game , something they are very wary of doing now that the Swans have shown themselves as very competent opposititon . We should just be a bit more realistic sometimes, defeat hurts but overall we did well and didn't look out of place against a very good side
Yes but Jonjo is far more likeable than JDG so its not a problem if he doesn't do his job, only a problem if JDG doesn't do his ! ... Look, that's how teams mostly score goals, its when the opposition don't do something quite right and slack off, every now and again the opposition score a world class goal and we can do nothing about it , your point is well made , maybe shelve was feeling tired hence why Laudrup subbed him, he could well have noticed that jonjo wasn't tracking back as I believe he was subbed not long after that
lol to be fair though Norway, I have criticised JDG something awful, end of last season, start of this, I have been asking myself why we kept starting with him, founbd him lazy, but as much as I criticised him, i'll give credit where it is due, and of late he has played ok, I also thought he was a bit stand off-ish for the first goal, and too cowardly in the tackle for the second, but in recent games he has started playing better, so am hoping it continues, and that those moments I noticed yesterday were not him returning back to old form, and just lapses in judgement.
I agree with that sentiment, not sure why everyone is letting their hopes get up so much. It's a shame we lost when we could've got a result (and a shame that **** scored, why did the beeb feel the need to put an article about his reaction on our bbc page today by the way, bloody ridiculous) but given how many games were playing and the opposition were facing at the moment, you can't expect us to take points off all of them. The only thing that does worry me is no wins in eight home games - we need to thrash Sunderland, because I worry that we may come home with nothing against Southampton. Also, good to see the bloobs out in force...when they've had the fixtures we've had we'll see who's laughing
And that's the point in a way . these players will not be astounding every match but for some reason we think they should be! if they were top class every match they wouldn't be playing for Swansea , the whole team were 7/10 yesterday with a few a point below or above . Im quite happy with how our season is going , its been a difficult start with some really nasty home games (man utd Liverpool and Arsenal ffs! ) but lets see how we do in the next few weeks now that teams are more near our level. Southampton away will be a real hard game but im sure we can go there and compete for points. Keep the faith lads
We all have our own takes on yesterday's game. Laudrup set the team up with more midfield presence to nullify the likes of Wiltshire, Ramsey & Ozil, for most of the game we matched them. Cans did a great job on Ozil, to the point when Wenger subbed him that same as Wiltshire as well. Now to me we got done by Ramsey who's probably in the best form of his career. The lad can't stop scoring, and if he carries on putting on displays like this then he's in with a shout of player of the season. He was instrumental in the first goal and had fantastic composure in getting the second goal. Still wish we would close players down int he 18yard box, as this goal very similar situation to Van Persie's goal. Did think that De Guzman's attempted tackle leading to their second goal was VERY poor, it was very half hearted in the tackle with Wiltshire, tackling definitely not his strong point. Now if it was me and we wanted to pack the midfield then I would have played Canans, Leon & Shelvey. But I'm only and armchair fan, where's Laudrup is one of the greats to grace our game, so I think he's more qualified than me. When Bony came on we did give their defence something to worry about, just a pity we conceded just before he came on. Never mind onto next week and Southampton, Oh I want three points next week!!!!! Still would take a draw. Keep the faith lads, Onwards and Upwards!!!!
