Its the biggest joke when an appeal is lodged and the aggreived party comes out and says it shouldnt have been a red card and they still ignore the appeal. I think if that ever was to happen where the even the opposition defends a red card it should instantly be resinded the opposition should be commended for fair play. Though the FA and the press dont like to see that anymore do they as they cant berate the footballer for not being a role model
........or Lloyd Sam's digraceful sending-off. His ban was increased for "frivolous appeal" as well. What a joke.
Which one was the FHB? I dont remember Lloyd Sam ever getting sending off? (though I do have a lame memory sometimes)
Am I getting them mixed up? I seem to remember the player was knocked down and as he was getting up he was (incorrectly)deemed by the ref to have struck the player who knocked him down. If it wasn't Sam I must be getting old!
Nope FHB and WWOCB are definitely right as I checked the match report on the Charlton website. Both Ian Ashbee and Lloyd Sam got sent off in the 44th min at the start of our first Championship season when we went up to Hull and beat them 2-1
So it was Sam, and I am already very old. Apologies for doubting you. But did he also have his suspension increased for a frivolous appeal? I only remember that for Sankofa.
Take a mug of cocoa and switch on Countdown, FHB, think your memory's deceiving you on this one... definitely Sankofa ;-)
From Wiki - "Sankofa was sent off again whilst playing against Arsenal on 2 January 2007 for a professional foul on Robin Van Persie. He subsequently got the initial one match ban extended by one match for what the FA deemed to be a "frivolous" appeal."
JentheSaint, by the letter of the law it wasn't. He was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity NOT for deliberate handball. It wasn't a clear goalscoring opportunity as the ball was at the corner of the box and our defender was covering (add to that, David Mooney is **** so wouldn't have scored). A red card for 'deliberate handball' would have been less debatable, but even then, the ball hit his chest and bounced onto his arm, so that would mean it being a yellow at the most.
Sam was definitely sent off against Hull and before I get the cocoa out I'll check with Colin Cameron before the next home game whether his ban was increased or not. (Yes it did happen to Sankofa but my possibly dodgy memory says it happened to Sam)
I think FHB may be right. If my memory serves me correctly, Ashbee had Sam in a headlock and Sam did nothing back, hence why Pardew lodged an appeal. May be wrong though.
Hope he is, then I've got an excuse to drink cocoa and watch Countdown, something my New-Year healthy lifestyle procludes!!
That's what the replays seem to suggest, its what Hamer said and I'm pretty sure other players/Chris Powell have said the same.
