Well that is pretty disgusting. Why didn't they just credit your account and send you a letter informing you?

That might be true of the youth in the Antipodes, but here in Chav City it is not just young women who can multitask – even the young men can walk, text and chew gum... <laugh>

What is the world coming to? Oh for the days of a quiet out of hours drink, a bit of ducking and diving and no 'nanny state'.

The weakness in the pound this last week was the result of the less-than-expected GDP growth figures released by the Official for National Statistics.

The weakness of the Euro is disguised because most of Europe cannot escape from it, so there is no visible capital flight. All they can do is buy Euro-denominated assets in a different country. So if you are Spanish, Greek or Italian you put your Euros into German equities and hope that Deutsche Bank survives.

Cheers QM. I knew that was why the pound went down. Just didn't understand why the Euro didn't go down given your comment about the Euro could be wiped out if the Italian banking system collapses

Simple explanation: most of Italy’s banks were bailed out by the ECB and they have big private debts with many of Europe’s biggest banks in Britain, Germany and France. A default brings down the whole house of cards.

So the taxpayer gets to bail the banks out ..................... again. Despite the banks repeating the greed-driven risks ............... playing with other people's money.

Yep, don't think it's pollen with me (never ever had an allergy test), but certainly pepper. Love the stuff on my food but it puts me in line to represent Bayern in a countrywide sneezing contest. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

My moan for the day. Turks, and Kurds too for that matter, who parade in their thousands in this country, disrupting the lives of ordinary people going about their daily lives and routines, blocking traffic, and God knows what. If they want to scream and shout about problems and injustices in their own part(s) of the world they should surely do it there, not in the country that has given them a living and a relatively safe and civilized way of life? These often unruly demonstrations really piss me off.

  10. Yeah same in London. I don't mind people protesting (in fact I think it should be actively encouraged) but would prefer them to do it in a way that doesn't disrupt the day to day lives of everybody else.

Strange you should mention conflicting marches in your adopted country; Kurds - Turks. Must have been around thirty years ago in Munich I saw them both out on the streets. There were also big fall outs between Croats and either Serbs or Bosnians (cannae remember) after the break up of Yugoslavia. I did not take 'sides' as they both seemed able to run pretty good bars/pubs/Gastatte however one morning I sloped over to one of my favourites on the other side of the Hauptbahnhof from Schillerstrasse only to discover that it had been partly destroyed by a fire. Later in the day I was ensconced in an 'opposition' boozer and was able to discern some laughter and language surrounding a little arson the previous evening.

Funny things happen on BK's vacations!

What I meant was, if the Euro could be wiped out, why doesn't it start to wobble on fear of that?

What sort of country puts in a minimum pricing level for alcohol and doesn't make a cent from it? Totally pointless when one if the worst drinks available, buckfast, is not affected. 7 years she had to get this right! So it's a 200 mile round trip for a carry out now <badger><badger><badger>

2nd point: Virgin London Marathon. A ballot to get in fair enough but don't ask me if I'm unsuccessful do I wish to donate my entry fee to charity. The charities are making fortunes asking runners to sign up (£70) then raise a minimum of £2000 for the chance to run in a sponsored vest! Last chance entrance is good for age :emoticon-0172-mooni 3hrs 10minutes, to quick for me. Mental as anything!

There was a documentary a few years ago Gaz which showed how awful the London Marathon organisation was at distributing the money raised from charitable donations. It also showed how they were in cahoots with the big charity organisations to the massive detriment of smaller organisations. Absolutely right, give em fook all.
