Still don't understand the issue with the Sainsbury ad then. It's a family Christmas ad. Are you saying that we can't have black families on telly or that black families can't enjoy Christmas.

One of my gay friends refers to HIMSELF as a **** - just as some of my rather (ahem) overweight friends refers to hmself as a 'fat b#stard' and another red-headed guy refers to himself as 'the ginger whinger' - and I know that some black people refer to each other as n#ggers.
One of our (rapidly fading) cultural attributes is to be able to laugh at ourselves.
Now, I would ever use ANY of those terms - and I think it's quite correct that they aren't promoted as 'normal' terms for NEW productions, but quite frankly to ban OLD songs is just another example of trying to rewrite history.
I was listening to one of my Elton John CDs in the car only the other day and one of my favourite tracks 'Island Girl' played - I was thinking only this week to myself that it would probably be banned if released today, but it was released in the 1970s when we weren't so sensitive.
These songs happened and we should get over it and stop trying to look for stuff to get offended about.

It's a yearly advert for ALL at Christmas.........It was produced on purpose (not just Sainsburys) trying to prove/falsely show, how diverse they've become. But it's bullshit and more of a marketing ploy....which IMO does more harm than good towards integration.. Had it been proportional, nobody would have battered an eyelid..but hey, it creates a debate, tension and publicity....which of course is the aim..

Remember that song R&W - it was on the Goodbye Black Brick Road album (had to change the title not to offend the Chinese). <ok>

Personally I think it's the way that the "word" is said that makes it offensive....If done in jest and light friendly banter amongst friends etc, I really don't see the problem......

    2 points on that one.

Firstly, just because you have a gay friend who is (presumably) confident and comfortable in himself to acknowledge himself in that way, doesn't mean everyone is. Some have decades-long internal struggles. Some are unable to ever truly be who they feel they are. Some get vilified by their friends and family even today. What you're describing can be toxic masculinity to some. I really do agree that we need to be able to laugh at ourselves but we also cannot preach about mental health without helping amend those conditions which cause mental health problems. I can't imagine how **** it must be to be born gay, and basically be pushed aside by parts of society through no fault of your own. I think we need to think about people in that situation.

And secondly, I think you're underestimating the sort of music that can get released today. Nothing ever gets banned, but of course it probably wouldn't get much radio play.

I only notice you're complaining now though. If it's disproportional now, where were you for the 99.9% of TV before nowadays which was disproportional in the opposite direction? Didn't matter so much then eh?

Over the last 10 years I think it has been most of the time....By right, proportional should be approximately 80-20 or am I wrong?

But white people have had British TV for 99.9% of the time prior to now.

I'm not saying 2 wrongs make a right but people are only piping up now. Why?

You can’t please all of the people all of the time. I think the thing. With the Sainsbury’s ad is it seems forced , set up, so to speak.

Talking of advertising; Paddy Power deliberately made their ads controversial with the INTENTION of getting them banned - it was a stroke of marketing genius - it prompted people to look them up on the internet to actually WATCH them, instead of going to the kitchen for a beer or a tea when the ads come on the TV!!!
I LOVE the one about cashing out in your pocket..... and the Vegan one - priceless!!!!
