I like TOUGH REMEDY in this. Has a nice draw, the right age group and they have him off a decent mark and crucially in the right grade. He is worth a punt at 16/1.
Sorry Nass - we both have a weird sense of humour and clearly we'd forgotten that this was a serious thread. Club Wexford if I'm looking at the correct race. In the form of his 8 year old life, decent draw, decent jock - what could possibly go wrong?
No Reebs. I think what Oddy was trying to say was that, after 2 hours of analysis an 55 sentences in his draft preview, the number of full stops got to him
I'm there but it looks as though you haven't seen it yet, along with stick, reebs, Oddy, Barney etc. Not very clever
If I was a betting man I would have had a substantial punt on you picking a race at Bath today. Instead, it’s a case of ‘ding dong’ and the forum heading ‘ooooooooooooooooooooop’ to Carlisle… Cor blimey that race though, in all seriousness, looks on the difficult side of difficult and not for the first time, I’m clueless. Interestingly, there is another very historic race run today at Salisbury. ‘The Bibury Cup’ that’s been run at the course since the 19th century. Although that sounds more impressive than it actually is as the first renewal was in 1899!
Just glanced through the card, thought i'd add my two pennies worth in, and would go with Tadaawol as my pick... CD form, won on good/firm, jockey won last time here has a 20% strike rate for the trainer and at 12/1 is very much worth my e/w money...
Brother McGonagall is my selection in the Carlisle Bell. He started the season with a poor effort but ran better the next time out and better still on his 3rd start. He ran to something like his mark at Doncaster but the Handicapper dropped him a handy 2 lbs despite that fact. He certainly cashed in by winning five lengths at Beverley from the mark of 73 and thereby incurred the wrath of the assessor in being raised 10 lbs to 83. Brother McGonagall has never won from such a high rating and that is why he is available at 9/1 today. He has won from 77 in the past but will need a personal best today, so can he achieve it? On the positive side, this seems to be his time of the year to thrive, with June and July being the months where he does his winning. He has also followed up a win before with a double and a hattrick in previous seasons. This is about his trip and he is 7/27 on turf, pretty good for this type of horse. His latest run came in a big field and it seemed a career best effort where he perhaps was value for a shade more. He was rated 86 at one stage and coming here in form and with a success at the track in the past, he looked the value to me at 9/1 for jockey David Allan, who has won on him several times. Easterby is in so-so, rather than startling form but I had the horse as a 6/1 shot today and went in 2pts on the nose at 9/1. 3.30 Carlisle Brother McGonagall 9/1 2pts win.
Ok guys, this is going to look really stupid. I had a bit of a squizz at the race and figured Easterby with 4 runners in the event mush have a shout, especially as he's the leading trainer for the course. This where I'm going to risk looking the complete idiot. I'm selecting Jason Hart's mount Mikmak at 12-1 but only because he's come up extremely short on the tote. He's 4.2 on the giddy goat. My off beat thinking leads me to think that maybe the stable thinks he alive chance and someone has taken a hit at it on the tote. Mikmak. 12-1. EW.
