I used to go to union meetings back in the day and there was a staunch Labour member who'd been in unions all his life often when doing so threatened his jobs but you've never met a more racist bloke in your life. Came from a generation who'd fought in the war, struggled to get housing and work after it then along comes the Windrush generation in the 50's and 60's. Absolutely 100% blamed black folks for stealing his jobs and housing and that of his offspring, "my daughter can't get a Council flat because of the effing coons" and "my grandson can't get a job because of the effing Pakis" etc.

He'd had to strike before the war to get decent working conditions and pay and then saw waves of West Indians walking into jobs. The irony being that they were brought here to take up the sort of jobs that British men like him didn't want to do after the war.
