Could still win it,but whatever the outcome, rather than criticising defensive frailty/naivity you should really just be proud of them.
Compare and contrast with the recent dour nonsense of Hodgson or the unbalanced displays of the Dalglish era,Rodgers has liverpool playing with the same vibe that made them such a force throughout europe in the 70s and 80s and has made them a pleasure to watch in the modern over elaborate and defensive game.
Its laughable that supporters of the also rans choose to rejoice in liverpool just coming up short when their own teams have given them nothing whatsoever to be proud about.
It will be good to see the big european nights return next year to anfield, always enjoyed watching enviously the passion these nights generated which never seemed to be replicated at other grounds

seriously though at least the 2 teams who try and entertain are at the top, just a shame we may come up short, but like you say we should be proud.

If we'd been more pragmatic and defensive and 'balanced' we'd probably be on about 70 points

as far as I'm concerned we just didn't score enough goals - mainly due to not enough options off the bench/cover

brilliant season. more attacking, more goals next season and a big summer window

<laugh> I guess that's one way of looking at it. I don't think my heart can take another season of defending like we have this year but I do love the attacking play......decisions, decisions.....

Either way, this thread was not meant to be critical in any way, I think we are all proud of what we've achieved this year <ok>

Smileys are powerful tools and should not be used without proper consideration, you used that little smiley as a tool of evil I've not just requested a ban form our board but I've taken the step of requesting a site ban.

I agree with this. Our cavalier style may just have cost us at the death, but it was what got us in a position to throw it in the first place.
I also agree with others that we need to take stock and see where we go from here- improvement, not a radical change in style, is needed imo.
It's been far too good to watch to sacrifice for a more pragmatic, dull approach.
I don't think the problem is as much down to the defenders as is made out, although there is obvious improvement needed there.
It's as much to do with discipline amongst the defensive midfielders. If you watch a better defensive team, like Chelsea (yawn), or any of the so called "lesser" teams that park the bus, they quickly get their two lines of four organised when under attack in open play.
How often do we see ours do that? Except for set-pieces, we tend to be chasing back a lot from midfield, making dodgy tackles from behind, etc.
We need to get organised more quickly, this requires a lot of energy and a lot more concentration than we've shown at times.

And we need FBs who can actually block crosses.

good point saint, i watched when palace had the ball in midfield one point in the game and they had 3 back behind the ball from an attacking point of view and quite a few forward of the ball and i though **** we are going to get caught out here but then suddenly they had about 6-7 back even though they was attacking.

Totally agree with everybody that our style of play has been so exciting that I would be loathe to see it diluted in an attempt to strengthen our defensive operations. However, it is clear that we do need to address our defensive shortcoming.

It's too easy to just say that we need better players - every side needs to improve so that's a given. We do need to address how and why the majority of the goals against were scored. I believe that we tend to concede when our defenders are left exposed as we push forward. If that is the case then we have a tactical rather than personnel problem to address. However, we still appear to have our perennial problem with set-piece crosses.

This is exactly my point too. We can replace our entire back 4 but it'll make little difference if we pile forward without adequate cover.....some times at least.

Put it this way. I'd of been happy for us to play for a 0-0 draw versus Chelsea...we only needed a point. They find it hard to break teams down....it was set up for that.....a draw would of been no good to them so we could of nicked something on the break as they got more adventurous.

And had that occurred, who would of complained if we'd got 2 or 3-0 up against palace and shut up shop? Make no mistake, that is something that we MUST learn to do in the CL.

We could of wowed the league with our football for the majority of games....but that doesn't mean that it's wrong to play for a point from time to time....especially with titles at stake. All good food for thought during the summer.

I was laughing when Chelsea were running the clock down after 3 minutes - I was thinking let's do the same then, **** it - a draw is no good for them but leaves the title in our hands.

They would have realised after 70 minutes that we are ok with 0-0, come forward and we'd counter them and nick it. If only that happened :(

We (collectively) got it wrong against both the chavs and palace, but Rodgers has shown that he learns from ****-ups, so let's hope he has here.

  19. How many times do we need to squander a lead for him to the Palace lesson? <laugh>

different circumstances though wasn't it, we was trying to get a goal dif down we know deep down we couldn't.

you don't expect at 3-0 up the opo to keep going to be fair, we played into their hands though at times.

we should have turned into the counter attacking team at that point and maybe we could have done better about the result and gd.

i am glad brendan played it the way we did, just need a bit more luck at times i guess, could and should have been at least 5up before they got a goal any ways.
