I was lucky enough to be invited to Aberbargoed Buds Gentlemans evening at Bargoed golf club on Friday evening, although i do sponser them albeit not a great deal of money.
Phil Dwyer was the guest speaker along with a suberb comedian.
Have to say old Phil was very nervous but got through it with a few good stories but he was a little difficult to understand, plus they sat him between two referees.
Gary Bell, Roger Gibbins, John Lewis, Lindon Jones (took the stick quite well, we were all asking him to do the ayatollah cameras at the ready, but he didnt bite) Damon Searle, Jason Perry and Mr Lovejoy the old Echo and News of the screws reporter all in attendance.
It was great to be in the presence of they ex players and they mixed really well with everyone.
At £25 per head for a great evening in a great venue with great food and company, what a bargain.
Lindon also bid on a shirt that he had signed from that era, because he wanted it for his grandson, his face was a picture as he was bidding as we were all pushing the price up.
Hopefully more of the same next year, and i can report our support is stronger than ever, lots of the boys left there at 1am and were up again at 5am to commence the long journey to Boro.
