' His career and life have been marked by numerous controversial incidents and disciplinary problems,[4] and he has been convicted twice on charges of violence. On 20 May 2008 he was sentenced to six months' imprisonment for common assault and affray during an incident outside a McDonald's restaurant in Liverpool City Centre.[5] Barton served 77 days of this prison term, being released on 28 July 2008.[6] On 1 July 2008 he was also given a four months suspended sentence after admitting assault occasioning actual bodily harm on former teammate Ousmane Dabo during a training ground dispute, on 1 May 2007.[7] This incident effectively ended his Manchester City career.[8] Barton has twice been charged with violent conduct by The FA: for the assault on Dabo[9] and for punching Morten Gamst Pedersen in the stomach.[1'

The man is a thug....pure and simple....

Decency and ethics have long since disappeared from the game and this incident is a another nail in the coffin of fair play and respect. I don't know how we can turn around the way our beloved game has gone when I see players earning 150K a week and wanting more at the drop of a hat. Just look at the great return that was garnered from the 85million for Torres and Carroll combined fee and I worry even more that the phrase "financial stabilty" has disappeared from the footballing world forever.

The day English football rolled over and died. Man Utd have for years been the highest if not second highest in the transfer market for years. People have always said that these teams come in and buy success is true, but when a team has constantly been doing this for years long before Abramovich turned up, often goes unnoticed.

I don't agree with this all about rich investors, but as Cardiff will find out if they don't turn red. Without these investors the clubs can't survive.

What killed football is televised matches giving the chioce watch it on TV or go to the game. Kids see Man U and all the others and say they support them. Football clubs attendances drops so they need to put prices up to recuperate the income. We are in a decline and unfortunately people like us who go to matches are becoming a minority.

Back to Barton, he is a tool who does not take much to provoke, which is unfortunate as he is not a bad player, which is down to his temper and behaviour that will never live his full potential. As teams just need to flick his switch and watch the dick get sent off.

Just a quick comment on Red's post. From what I see only being able to get Welsh TV, Cardiff fans opinion has reversed the demand to change to red colours. The reason was that apparently in the East red is a lucky colour. As a result there is to be a review on how much of the £100 million is to be invested.

I suppose my main point was that credit where credit is due Man Utd won title after title with a proportion of academy products in their teams (Giggs, Scholes, Neville x2, Butt, Beckham, Welbeck to name but a few). Man City have one in Micah Richards who cannot even get in the starting 11 and until something is done about this my passion for football will continue to wain. Nothing made me more proud than watching City teams with the likes of Skuse, Wilson and Bryan doing well this season and even that's not enough in my opinion.

Call me old fashioned but if I was on the FA I would be introducing a rule that 25% of your 32 man squad had to be players from within your own academy.

As for Barton, he's an idiot and if Hughes has any sense he will be getting rid this summer. Although for some reason I did find the kick on Augero really amusing for some reason. I think it was the look on his face as he did it and the fact that Augero went down like he just got shot and rolled around like a fanny.

I agree that a percentage should be from the academy, but we all know the ownes will just put them on the bench and get round it some how.

I think that clubs should have a catchment area that kids until they are a certain age like 21 can only play within that area, this way stop the bigger clubs coming in and taking the better players. I know that sounds like a post code lottery, but something has to change.

From what I heard, the damage is done with Cardiff's investors, they have taken it personally and will pull out, but this could be just a rumour. Also from what I have been told they are investing in the academy, ground and paying off the debts don't know how much is actually going on playing staff, but they also want to increase the ground to 31k
