While we did do very well towards the end of last season, I never thought that there were many reasons for us to be in the running for promotion with the squad we have. A good way to judge it would be to compare this team with that of 2007:

Steve Mildenhall or Steve Phillips?
Conor Gough or Scott Shearer?
Michael Smith or Aaron Lescott?
Danny Woodards or Ryan Green?
Lee Brown or Chris Carruthers?
Tom Parkes or Steve Elliott?
Mark McChrystal or Craig Hinton?
Garry Kenneth or Byron Anthony?
John-Joe O'Toole or Craig Disley?
Seanan Clucas or Stuart Campbell?
Oliver Norburn or Andy Sandell?
Ollie Clarke or Sammy igoe?
Ellis Harrison or Lewis Haldane?
David Clarkson or Richard Walker?
Ryan Brunt or Rickie Lambert?
Eliot Richards or Sean Rigg?

Ok, I know I left a few players out and perhaps comparing them with the 2007 team is harsh, but it must be said, this team as not as good as the one that took us up. Although we were an inconsistent side at times back then, there was always quality.

Steve Mildenhall or Steve Phillips? Mildenhall
Conor Gough or Scott Shearer? Shearer
Michael Smith or Aaron Lescott? Smith
Danny Woodards or Ryan Green? Woodards (when fit and in shape)
Lee Brown or Chris Carruthers? Brown
Tom Parkes or Steve Elliott? Elliott
Mark McChrystal or Craig Hinton? Hints
Garry Kenneth or Byron Anthony? Anthony
John-Joe O'Toole or Craig Disley? Tough one, but probably O'Toole
Seanan Clucas or Stuart Campbell? Campbell
Oliver Norburn or Andy Sandell? Sandell
Ollie Clarke or Sammy igoe? Igoe
Ellis Harrison or Lewis Haldane? Haldane
David Clarkson or Richard Walker? Walker
Ryan Brunt or Rickie Lambert? Lambo
Eliot Richards or Sean Rigg? Rigg

<ok>

Steve Mildenhall or Steve Phillips? Equal
Michael Smith or Aaron Lescott? Lescott was more vesatile midfield lB,RB, Smithy pacey (a blend of the two would be awesome)
Danny Woodards or Ryan Green? Woodards- green was turned to easily
Lee Brown or Chris Carruthers? equal both poor at times caught out to easily.
Tom Parkes or Steve Elliott? Elliot no brainer
Mark McChrystal or Craig Hinton? Hints in his last two seasons was on song prior to that he was awful

Junior Agogo
James Hunt

There were a couple more Jamal Easter and James Walker brother of the famous!
Match them up vs the team AMOT and we will compare

The reason why I didn't put Agogo, Hunt, Walker and Easter is because they were only involved in the early part of that season. I did think about Nicholson but couldn't think of anyone to match him up at the time. But here goes:

Alefe Santos or Joe Jacobson?
Mitch Harding or Stuart Nicholson?
Tom Lockyer or Chris Lines?

I know I didn't match Broghammer or Harrold with anyone, but we'd rather have Lambert I think!

but this team is the same team (apart from anyinsah, tounkara and hitchcock) that was in automatic promotion form from when ward took over to the end of the season. so whats gone wrong over the summer that has meant this same lot of players have gone from basically being a automatic promotion team to a relegation dog fight team?

You can ask the same (perhaps to a lesser degree) about McGhee I guess. Extended honeymoon period for a new manager?

i can only see it getting worse at the moment. 2nd placed chesterfield up next and then 4th placed oxford. 2 games time we will be bottom 2 if not bottom. i can imagine a lot more people calling for wards head. harsh though as these next 2 games was always going to be tough. pressure from fans makes it even harder.

Chesterfield have not won for a few games, but they're still probably the best side in the division as they have the right blend of youth and expereince.

Some very promising players like Smith and Darikwa, two players who have played in the Premier League in Evatt and O'Shea, and Gary Roberts, arguably the best player in the division. The only positive omen as the fact that they haven't won away to Rovers for years (more on that in the match thread).

thanks by the way for adding more details to seamges match threads, i appreciate it. its good when others chip in if you know what i mean <ok>

chesterfield were 2-0 vs york last night and came back to 2-2. that alone would give them a big lift :(

Yeah you seemed to be one of the only people posting last night, CJS.

All I've done on match threads so far is add pointless details of previous meetings!

well i try my best to be on here on the match thread on away games. im at most if not all homes games. im away this weekend though. i want this site to grow as i think this is a good site. my goal is to get more traffic on our board. if i stop posting (which from tomorrow afternoon to monday evening i wont be posting much as im away) then there is only a couple others who do post regularly.

might not sound much to you but it adds something more to an already quality match thread thanks to seamge <ok>

The old BBC 606 was very popular (I was a regular reader), but on this site only certain teams get traffic. Rovers and Portsmouth are really the only clubs in League 2 with regular contributors, which is a bit of a shame.

yep. just before bbc 606 died, so many different forums promoted themselves on bbc 606 and i think members just drifted apart on different forums. i went to ja606 first but thats dead. this seemed the most popular forum and we got on with the red lot from bbc 606 which majority of them all moved to this forum so we had the banter too to keep our small board occupied if that makes sense. also bbc 606 died at the end of the season we got relegated so i think a lot of members just didnt bother and didnt have it in them to carry on.
