El Scummico throws up an interesting potential conundrum. If Bompey beat Pompey, then who has South Coast bragging rights?

Pompey beat us last time out, but we beat Bompey.

Visiting the Olds back in Somerset plus a trip to the Clark's village ( 33% discount card cos my old man worked for Clarks :emoticon-0100-smile )as my daughter's feet are still growing apparently, a bit of DIY (ie screwing a bit of T+G cladding to some walls in the Bathroom) and that's it! Bottle of wine with my name on it at some point and a rib of beef for Sunday Lunch.

The beauty of my DIY jobs is that my wife thinks everything is much more difficult than it actually is, so I get loads of brownie points for really simple jobs that I can stretch out over several hours, along with bacon butties and coffee at regular intervals. Accumulated points should add up to a boys weekend away somewhere interesting later in the year - Amsterdam possibly cos I really like coffee...

Somehow I'm very fond of Swanage for more reason than I can remember. Quite odd really. Must have been a really positive childhood experience that my subconscious taps into. Mind you, my first coastal sailing experience was to Swanage and that was excellent, but it's still more than that. It's one of those things where the mere mention of the name brings a smile.

Been to Kingston Lacey house. Good stately home place to visit, if you like that sort of thing.

Love visiting Stately Homes...that is what I miss on the Island. Used to love visiting houses and gardens most spare weekends. Now I go on one day coach trips...but they limit you to an area you can reach and return from in one day....Herefordshire to Kent really.

Swanage is just Magic ( IMHO ) . I had never been before I met Mrs J , now we go at LEAST once a month no matter what the weather , and we even have our own plaque on the pier .

Must admit I do have a similar soft spot for Weymouth, but I know the reason for that one. All in all, I just love the southern coast to the west of Southampton. To the east of Southampton I can only really point out West Wittering and much further, Pevensey Bay. As you can probably work out, I like sandy beaches, not pebbles. But my love for the South West coast is such that I even like the pebbly beaches along the way.

Funnily enough I have never warmed to Weymouth, don't know why. Another place we love is Portland on any day, but esp when it is blowing a gale :)

Yes, I like Portland too. The Bill is a really bad place for rounding in a gale. Makes the Bay of Biscay feel like a pond.!
The day after I bought my first SAAB I went for a drive and enjoyed it so much I ended up at the top of the hill on Portland, after visiting most of the South Coast as far as Devon.

Agreed. The best way to approach Swanage is on foot, over the headland from Studland, past Old Harry and his stumpy Wife. A great walk and beautiful views. As the Yetties used to sing, "Dorset is beautiful , wherever you go."

There's always Osborne, Fran, but it is really the only one. Maybe Carisbrooke at a stretch.

For a few years, me and some work mates would meet in Corfe castle telephone exchange, and do a coastal walk, all the way out to swanage and back. 18 miles or so, bloody hard work, but some of the scenery!!!!!

Wasn't Swanage the home town of Basil Fawlty? I showed a clip to my students here and they loved it!! It was the clip with Mrs Richards talking to Manuel using complex language that he cannot comprehend.

    Saturday - resting
    Sunday - resting

    Why?

Monday is transfer deadline day. Up at the crack of dawn, glued to SSN throughout the day, until Jim white having orgasms announces a last minute major Southampton signing, a signing that will grab all the headlines and eventually propell us to the top 4.
