Why support a player who lets himself, his team mates, the Club, and nearly 700 travelling fans ( most of whom had to go to work today ) down? Martins contributions to matches amounts to just about Fanny Adams and his disciplinary record is appalling. Support him? Get his backside out the door fast!
Every time an argument about Martin comes up, someone always mentions the stats... well I thought I would have a look for myself. Martin has the top assists for the club: 5 Edwards & DJ 4 Cressy 3 Drury 3 Martin also has the most shots: 58 N'daw 31 Murphy 30 Cressy 24 He also has the most shots on target: 38 DJ 14 Cressy 12 Murphy 12 He has not committed the most fouls, only 33 compared to N'daws 52 (although Martin does have the most cards) However, he has won us the most fouls: 51 Cressy 28 Edwards 28 Drury 23 So personally I think unless we can get a quality replacement, we will really miss him if he isn't here next season
Good post Wrighty Everyone is instantly on Martin's back and no one has mentioned Stearman's sending off which arguably cost us the game!
I'm not Martins biggest fan but I feel he's been undeservedly singled out for criticism ahead of most of the squad. When as the stats show he has actually probably been our best attacking player this season!! It's a case of we shouldn't get rid until we've got better I think, he's currently one of our better players!! I do feel a bit for him regarding the red card, by the letter of the law it was the right decision but IMO i think the rules for football need to be looked at again, they're overly strict. Players are always going to loose their cool every once in a while, it's a contact sport it's going to happen, it happens alot in Rugby and Basketball, where u see players full on punching each other but officials just tell them to calm down and get on with match, i can't help think we can learn from this, because the rules just encourage gamesmanship which is ruining matches. I'm not condoning violent conduct, that should be a straight red but how many times do players really commit violent conduct? it's always generally a bit of handbags where a player raises their arms slightly or they just square up to each other, which as i say is always going to happen in competitive sport!!
The highlights are up on sky http://www1.skysports.com/watch/vid...ams/ipswich-town/8544729/n-forest-1-0-ipswich both red's are very very harsh IMO shame they didn't show the free-kick which may have been a penalty for us, I would have liked to make my own mind up about that
Don't see what's harsh about Martin's red card but Stearman's yellow doesn't look like a yellow to me.
