An average of 3 points every 2 games will see us to safety. (1.44 per game to be precise) To give an idea of the task ahead such an average achieved over the whole of last season would have placed us in 7th place behind Chelsea and ahead of Everton by a single point. If Harry saves us he is a miracle worker.
Apart from any psychological effect being adrift has, I don't care how much the other teams trip over themselves. To adapt a cliche - you don't win anything by being 17th at Christmas. The table always ends looking similar each year and it's our position in that "typical" league that we need to focus. It's the points per game we realistically need that worries me. Harry's here in part because of his potential for immediate impact and, if he can do this, the job in hand won't seem as desperate in a month.
im going to be brave and say we will stay up. i have every bit of confidence now harry is on board. i actually think we will finish either 15th or 16th.
Let's at least wait two games before we write off our chances FFS. Teams come into form and go into a catastrophic run of form. Luck changes and decisions suddenly all go for you or against you. What precisely has happened since our hopes were raised by the sacking of Highes and a vastly improved team effort yesterday afternoon. Oh yes. Southampton have just had a second win on the bounce. When the teams all above us have won numerous games on the bounce, I'll get worried. Reading lost. Sunderland lost and Villa drew. We are two or three wins away from the relegation pack. We play Sunderland on Tuesday night and Villa on Saturday. And we are no longer managed by a moron who regards a 0-0 score as positive progress. So we may (NB. not will) need a result on the last day of the season to stay up. Do you honestly believe already that we have no hope of being in that position?
Agreed Yorkie! I'm going to use the same line I used last year (except now I'm gonna start using it before XMas)......."it ain't over unless it mathematically impossible to do so".
That's an interesting point! We have got a lot of the hard games out of the way though, so i'd say the remaining fixtures will be easier to maintain that points average over than the whole season would have been. Not to mention that it's easier to play 25 games at a 7th placed average than it is to play 38 games at the same average anyway, regardless of fixtures.
True about being easier to maintain a high average over fewer games, best to ignore the negative side of losses being more damaging.
I think if we can close the gap to 17th place to 4 points by the beginning of January we'll be in good shape with the window open to strengthen, it's a marathon NOT a sprint...
Can we make up those seven points by the end of march? Two points every month, leaving us level and in the mix for the last six weeks? Yeah, I reckon so. Our luck must change as well
Have come to the conclusion that it's best to think about our points defecit in cycling terms: We are safely slipstreaming the bunch saving energy for the final sprint. Bosingwa's apparent lack of effort is easily explained this way.
Couple of wins and we will still be bottom, but at least have momentum, hopefully when others are losing theirs..... Re Hughes' fault, I don't believe Arry would take the job if he didn't think he could work the 'miracle' with largely the same players we have now. But let's say if he averages 1 point a game or more for the rest of the season and we still go down it will certainly be Hughes' fault, for the pathetic failure to average that so far. If Arry can't get to a point a game surely he must also shoulder some (not all) of the blame? Lets reckon up at the end of the season, I won't pass judgement before. I'm on record as disliking Arry, but that doesn't mean I want him to fail. In fact I'm sure we will benefit from new manager syndrome, plus the fact that his approach is likely to be simpler and more positive. Plenty of excitement to look forward to yet and at the end of the day (cliche alert!) I just want to be entertained, seeing the undoubtedly skillful players in our team play to their potential with a bit of pride. If Arry can deliver that he will get my respect if not affection, whatever the results.
One step at a time. If we can aim to be 3 points adrift or less come Jan I think we'll be in a good position to kick on. Other teams will have a bad run at some stage, lets hope we've already had ours.
Absolutely nobody wants Harry to fail. I am bubbling with renewed hope and optimism. Apologies if being a realist is not allowed on this site. I genuinely think that we have a great chance now of surviving but one look at the table tells you how much sh**e we are currently in and the struggle it's going to be to stay up. I think it will go right down to the wire again.
That's a good response sb. Of course if Harry continues with as bad a record as Hughes then he will share the blame, undoubtedly. However, I think Hughes should shoulder the lion's share of blame, as I think ANYONE would struggle to keep us up from here, especially with the terrible team ethic/spirit that has encapsulated Hughes's reign. But you're quite right....let's wait and see and get behind the team on match days.
It's a Mount Everest to climb after this week. If 'arry' can keep us in the prem, they should bloody name him Sir Harry Redknapp! With our players it is a "mission impossible". Firstly they have to defend against high crosses in our own penalty area. This season they have failed it misearable. Secondly they have to win battles on the midfield ( they actually did that quite well at old tradford for 62 minutes.....). Thirdly they have tp learn how to pass to each other when they succeeded to get near opposites penalty area. Again, they have been horrendous also in that very important department. Finally they have to learn how to shoot towards the opposite goal. Its a one thing ,in so many, what have sticking to my eye. The quality of our players shootings is absolutely shameful. Theres also much to improve with our cornerkicks and freekicks. If 'arry' can improve all these departments it wont still be enough. He have to make QPR play as a team and not as a bunch undiscpined individuals. So IMO its a impossible mission , but what the hell, we dont sink any deeper with Redknapp. If he happens to save us i'll promise to take a pint for him every day until the start of the next season.

Just stop and think about what you've just said. We lost to Man Utd and Southampton beat an out of form Newcastle at home. Nothing else has changed since last week when we were all desperate to sign someone to get us out of this mess before it was too late. I don't recall anyone telling TF this time last week "Sack Hughes and replace him at enormous cost but it's too late now it won't do any good." Panicking and negativity is illogical. he's done what we all wanted. Now give it a chance.
