Well said, it really annoys me that "the loyalest supporters the world has ever had" always need a scapegoat. I'm sure if we won everything going some "fans" would still have someone to berate.
Williamson, Perch and Simpson actually gave us 3 scapegoats last season and the vast majority of the stick they recieved was totally unjustified.
Regardless of whether you agree with that or not it certainly does not show great support for the team when players are being singled out for abuse and this also reflects in the performance of the rest of the team. A player getting stick from the crowd will not improve. Give them the support they need to perform above themselves and this overall support will lift the whole team.

for me, I would definitely keep:

Simpson and Williamson, OK, there are better out there but they just played quite a few games and we came 5th. They both made mistakes, but then so did other players.

Abeid, load him maybe, but he's had no chance yet so it would be silly to get rid, plus, he was scouted by Carr

Gosling, as a squad player, back-up, although he might want to move on a la Guthrie and Best.

the others I would let go. Xisco I feel a bit sorry for, because of the way he was signed meaning I don't think he got his chance to get into the team when he could have done. There's no way he'd get in ahead of any of our forwards now though, even those who have just left, so he should go.

Abeid to me looks like one of the best young prospects I've seen in years. If they're all still here in 2 years, Cabaye and Tiote are going to have to stay on form if they're going to keep him out of the line up.

This season loan him out, but with a 7 day recall clause

Ask a silly question, but barring Twitter did Simpson actually get any 'disgusting stick' last season? I don't think anyone particularly got on his back, but the lad is plainly the weak link of the first team. Not going into it more than that, see my blog post etc etc...

Back on topic I'd keep Gosling, he's had no time whatsoever to form an opinion on him, and for the same people calling Simpson a scapegoat to be calling for his head is just plain silly.

I agree Gosling deserves another chance. I just am filled with no confidence that he'll take it.

Unlike Mr Tiote, though, I am frequently wrong about many things

Simmo, Willo, Gosling should all be kept. They will be important squad players next season. Abeid should be loaned out with a call back clause, Best and Forster already gone.

And that just leaves Xisco :emoticon-0183-swear
