Back on topic - during my youth I collected different things (usually for a short while until I got bored and something else caught my attention). These included Empty cigarette packets (mint condition only) Marbles Clay pipes Pez dispensers Weebles Sea shells Fossils (very small ones, not like Brontosaurus or anything) I drew the line at interesting stones though. Even really interesting ones.
Still waited with baited breath to read about @Ponders Revisited eclectic collections. I predict: Emu's eggs Soiled copies of Viz Ann Widdecombe's second hand bras.
I have got literally hundreds of interesting stones - most of which were placed in my pockets by my kids during trips to the beach. I'm a big softy when it comes to keeping 'gifts' from the nippers, including poems, paintings, flowers and other assorted thingummies. I too have a large collection of clay pipe fragments, mainly collected from churchyards where old fellas would tap them on headstones to clear out old baccy but end up breaking the stem. In addition to the items mentioned in the other thread, I also collect fine aftershaves, leather-bound books, busts of Beethoven, Only Fools and Horses memorabilia, golliwogs, hedgehog and robin collectables, and a few other things that I'll mention later down the line.
I've contributed to Viz for over a decade and have many copies at hand, though I shouldn't imagine any of them are soiled - not by me anyway...
I have the run of three properties. My main abode is packed to the rafters with stuff, but my thirty-year battle with OCD means I am able to store, index and collate with military precision.
Donald's sixth bedroom is used by the under footman as it is in the North wing which doesn't have double glazing
Not a lot of people are aware of this, but I collect British military medals. I don't just buy any medal but ones that are rare or have a rich history/story behind them. Amongst the ones I've had to insure include 2 Waterloo medals (One Guards and one Kings German Legion), one DSO (would love a DSC), 3 Military crosses - two from WWI, 2 DFCs - one from Operation Jericho (by one of the Typhoon pilots who escorted the Mosquitos). Obviously my favourite is my Grandfathers Distinguished Conduct Medal.
I'm actually after this little collection at the moment but about £2k short if anyone wants to help. WWI collection, Royal West Kent/Royal Inniskillien Fusiliers/Seaforth Highlanders. Military Cross awarded for his actions during the Michael offensive in 1918.
I have about 50 beer glasses of all different shapes and sizes I have accumulated on my travels abroad. If I had my way I'd have them in a display cabinet, unfortunately Mrs Elfsborg is not agreeable to that idea.
