off nufc.com but the stuff in red i've added.

The current guidance regarding European club competition published by the Premier League is as follows:

    UEFA Champions League

The top four teams in the Barclays PL qualify for the CL.

English winners of the CL finishing outside the top four places (but who qualify for the EL through their domestic PL position) go forward as Winners to the group stage along with domestic champions, runners-up & 3rd place.

No extra domestic place can be gained by winning the CL, therefore the team finishing fourth drops to the EL.

So chelsea win the CL and finish 5th in the Premier league. Chelsea go into next seasons CL as holders, 4th place gets the Europa League position that 5th (Chelsea) would have got. 4CL teams and 3 EL teams (2 cups and 1 league)

English winners of the CL who do not qualify for any europe through their domestic position go forward as Winners to the group stage, with the team finishing 4th dropping to the EL.

In this case, the national association of the title-holder is entitled to one additional place in the EL.

I would assume if Chelsea win the CL and finish 6th then 4th get Europa league as well as 5th. 4 CL teams and 4 EL teams (2 cups 2 league).

    UEFA Europa League:

There are three places in the EL available: the FAC winners will enter at the Group Stage; the 5th place team in the PL will enter at the Play-Off stage; and the FLC winners will enter at the Q3 stage.

In the event the FAC winners are qualified for the CL the FAC runners-up will qualify, but in the place reserved for the lowest ranking PL representative.

The place with direct access to the Group Stage will be given to the club that finishes in the highest position in the PL of the clubs qualifying for the EL.

Should the FA Cup winners, runners-up (if applicable) and the LC winners already have qualified for Europe, their place goes to the next best placed clubs in the PL.

Currently none of the FA Cup semi finalists are guaranteed CL football but Liverpool are at a minimum EL Q3 entrants.

Spurs/Chelsea win the FA cup over liverpool and qualify for CL then Liverpool get Playoff place, 5th gets group stage, 6th gets Q3.

Spurs/Chelsea qualify for CL and F.A Cup final vs Everton then Everton get group stage if they win, Q3 if they lose. 5th gets playoff or
    group stage.

Imagine everton could boost Liverpools european position if they get to the final and lose!

    Something not mentioned but plausable...
Chelsea win FA cup over Liverpool and win CL but finish 6th in the League then the Europa league place goes to 7th or, if thats Liverpool, 8th! (4 CL teams and 4 EL teams scenario = 1st-3rd CL, 4th-5th EL, 6th Chelsea in CL, 7th Liverpool LC winner, 8th.
I could be mistaken, feel free to edit or offer corrections / other scenarios.

Thanks for that, however it's easier to simply say Barcelona will beat Chelsea so we have to finish ahead of them.

It's more the FA cup scenarios. One of Spurs or Chelsea are going to get Champions League.
The FA cup has so many outcomes as to what stage we would enter the EL at if it comes into play.
From the prospect of, and this includes finishing 4th, Qualifiers mean our season starts earlier. Players getting cup tied, players coming in etc.

Its a case of roll the dice and see what comes up!

The way I see it support is split 3 ways, those who want to get.
    (a) CL qualification 3rd/4th
    (b) Europa League
    (c) No qualification for Europe

Those in (c) do exist, reason being that as much as this season has been a good one, they think we need to walk before we run and not get too far ahead of ourselves, mistust that MA will invest for either competion. Are they being too pessimistic, probably?

Personally, I'm an optimist and would rather qualify for the CL. But MA needs to invest. we only have to think Partizan Belgrade, and the dampener that put on the season. Bear in mind the qualifying round of CL are no walk over these days.

Nothing wrong either with Europa League if we qualify.

Whatever, happens this is best season in a long time.

    So come on Wolves tonight.

4th is better, would only be two extra matches to get in to the CL (should we get through them) and iv heard it said before the EL has its pros and its cons, the CL only has pros

Are you sure the FA Cup doesn't over-rule the league? I thought that theorietically, if Chelsea win the CL then they plus top 3 got CL next year. Then 4th place + Liverpool (league cup) + FA Cup place would get Europa (Everton OR 5th in league if Everton don't make it into the final). So it was possible for us to finish 5th and still not get europe but only if...

Everton get to final of FA Cup, Chelsea win CL and Tottenham/Arsenal finish 3rd/4th in the league.

Anyhoo, it still doesn't change anything. We need to get as many points as possible and finish as high as we can. Simple.

This, just keep on winning, its all we can do. If we do that and miss out, it wasnt to be, if we fall back badly and miss out then we werent ready. Just accumulate as many points as possible and you never know.

Of course according to the Spurs supporting manager at a suppliers we use, it would be a travesty to football if we represent England in the CL. I thought he was joking so made light but then he proceeded to explain why! For the majority of the season we have played ****e football and yes you guessed it, been extremely lucky. Spurs on the otherhand have played a free flowing game that any would be priviledged to watch, and they've been top three most of the season so deserve it.

I pointed out that the season is 38 games long, and you deserve where you finish. Unimpressed by his protestations would be something of an understatement.
