Makes me wonder if the drink driving incident is a byproduct of not wanting to leave SAFC and knowing he is on his way.

Damn shame but he has to go now. Will look forward to his replacement coming in along with a left back and a centre mid.

Why not just pay the other team to take him off our hands. He's worth more than that

He's worth what they're willing to pay for him. On current form, at his age and on his wages he's worth what we're getting.

Reckon he knew he was going and thought **** it, points are no good in qatar.

Makes pdc look totally no nonsense this mind, good for him, £68k pw to play with and money bolstering the coffers

We're getting rid of a big wage here. In fairness, even if we sold him for more, in the last few days of the transfer market other teams would just demand more for his replacement. If we get £5m for him, other teams will be less likely to demand the earth from us. If we got £10m, you can bet we would be expected to pay over the odds for our next acquisition, either by the club or agent.

Sess. What a shame. Qatar will be the end of his career essentially (not like he is going to make it to the world cup) and what a shame that a player of his talent never really lit up any stage. Poor application of outrageous skill. You can write his football obituary now.

Lorenzo Insigne anyone? Unlikley but oooohh, wouldn't it be good!

The complete lack of interest from the top clubs in England should be a reminder that he was never going to be sold for the numbers some were suggesting.

Fletch on his way back. Expect him to be playing behind Jozy. Connor may be coming good. Reinforcements needed of course, but maybe not as bad as it seems.

That said, a lot depending on Fletch here.

Funnily enough

Di Canio: ‘Fletcher is part of the squad’.
Paolo Di Canio says Steven Fletcher will travel with the Sunderland squad this weekend.
The Black Cats face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday and Fletcher is again set to be included after being named as an unused substitute for the midweek win over MK Dons.
Fletcher missed out on Sunderland’s pre-season after sustaining an injury in March which required surgery.
But the striker is now back in training after working hard on his rehabilitation over the summer and Di Canio will leave it late before making a decision on his status.
“He is obviously part of the squad,” Di Canio said. “If I brought him with us on Tuesday that means he is available to travel with us also for the next game.
“Steven will join the rest of his team-mates on the trip and then I will decide if I will play him, but he will be with the group.”
Di Canio added: “He is an important player and joined us in full training just 10 days ago. For 25 days we were abroad during the pre-season and he couldn’t go, so it’s obvious he needs to practice.
“With the fitness level and the belief he has he can stay with the group and maybe have a part in the game.”

By the way, the cynic in me makes me think the drink driving was deliberate by him.

He thought we wouldn't sell before the deadline so he has essentially called Di Canio out on his hard line discipline. The timing, the location, alcohol........... He wanted his Qatar move. A final pay day. Lets face it, he is from war torn sub Saharan Africa. The bloke has seen extreme poverty first hand and it is no wonder money is such a motivation. I think this is why a lot of African players are prone to mercenary tenancies. I don't blame him for it and we'd probably be the same way if we were from that background.

Maybe now we can play a balanced formation. Did Sess ever even have a position?!?!?!

Very possible, I don't blame the chap. Sad it never quite worked out for him but he did what he could, when he could do it.

Agreed.

Remember we were open to offers and there weren`t any.

As others have already said it makes a big hole in the wage bill.
