Well done Chelsea for buying the one 3rd rater from among a generation of Spanish superstars. And paying top dollar for him.

TBH he has a point! Chelsea can attract the biggest names in world football and have the financial backing required yet you paid an obscene amount for Torres (even Aguero only cost 38m!) who hasn't found any form for a very long time! Now his price tag is making him a regular first teamer even though he doesn't deserve to be.

And for the record I am not having a dig - I would feel exactly the same if I was a Chelsea fan

Perhaps Sturridge aside, Torres has been our best forward this season so does deserve to start. On form Mata/Torres/Sturridge should be our front 3.

I'm sorry Chelsea fans, but you aren't wriggling out of this one. Lampard your regular pen taker, is on the bench, whilst Drogba (2nd in line) is injured. You paid 50 million for Torres, to score goals. So you would think with no regular penalty taker on the pitch Torres would be saying, I'm the main man in attack, I'm taking the penalty.

There is no high profile forward in the world that would allow a defender who has no proven experience of penalty taking to take a penalty, instead of them. You can harp on about Stuart Pearce etc, but he was a proven regular penalty taker.

Generally the best player in a side takes the penalty, the teams talisman. The guy a team can count on to handle the pressure. Messi takes them for Barca, Ronaldo for Madrid, Rooney for United, Gerrard for Liverpool etc etc. If Torres is the world class striker, he is hyped up to be, and is worth 50 million pounds, then surely he should be putting himself forward to take a penalty

Why don't you **** off with your ****ty footie thread?

Becoming abusive, because you know I've raised a valid point.

A 50 million pound striker, who lacks the composure to beat a keeper from 12 yards, oh dear, oh dear

Please explain how Pearce became a regular penalty taker? He had to start somewhere no? And lets be honest, Luiz is a far better player with the ball than without and more technically gifted than most our players regardless of position or cost.

P.S you're a WUM. Nothing more.

Notts Forest did not have the most expensive striker, in world football, among there ranks, when Pearce started taking penalty's.

The 2 key attributes of a penalty taker, have to be composure infront of goal and shooting. Are you saying Luiz posseses better composure, and has a better shot, than Torres. Is there any other high profile striker in world football, that wouldn't have put themselves forward, had they been in Torres's situation last night?

Well:biggrin:

Unless you have been at Chelsea's training ground then you have no ****ing idea who is the better penalty taker. Regardless of position, cost or whatever, the man who should take the penalties is the one who is best at them (save for someone having missed a few).

Rooney was the main striker at Man U and cost United more than Ronaldo but who took the penalties before Ronaldo was sold? Rooney must have been a bottler then. And he took the worse one in livbing memory against us so maybe United should let defenders have a go.

is it true the chelsea fans were singing 'you know what you are, you know what you are, anton ferdinand, you know what you are'

Commentators saying they couldn't believe Torres didn't step up to take it but then I'm sure i heard on the tele last night that Torres has never taken a proffessional Penalty? So he probably isn't the best person to step up to the plate under pressure to take a penalty when the normal penalty takers are missing.

You would assume as he is a great finisher that he would be great at penalties but maybe he actually is scared to take penalties! - maybe he missed one as a child and got bullied by his mates and now refuses :P Or maybe he thinks he has bad luck from the spot - who knows..

Anelka is a great finisher but ****e at penalties<ok>

Yeh since he hasn't taken penalties for his previous clubs maybe he is just crap at penalties... Nice simple explanation :P

Ronaldo took the penalties at Man Utd because he was the best forward they had, and he was (still is) a much better player than Wayne Rooney. Though had Ronaldo not been there Rooney was always there to fill in. Now Ronaldo has gone Rooney has stepped up to the mark, and is taking them regularly now.

Rooney missed a penalty when Man Utd were in cruise control, against you guys at 3-1, hardly a disaster. Perhaps his dad had backed 3-1. Though Rooney's miss from the spot was nothing in comparison to the open goal, Torres managed to hit wide.

As far as stakes are concerned I think the worst penalty in living memory, had to be.....

Actually second thoughts, you guys won't want reminding of that one
