Could be worse. American Football: Duration of game: 3 hours 12 minutes. Time were the ball is ‘live’……………… 11 minutes!!
It has been done in America. I don't recall if it was top level or not (it was a long time ago), but I know I've seen a game where they did indeed stop the clock when ball went out of play and the game ended not when ref blew his whistle, but when the clock hit zero. Probably more fair, but It took some of the suspense away from the ending. I want to say it was what MLS did back in the 90s. (Or whatever top league was back then). It was shortly after I came to the US I saw it and haven't since... They were also doing something weird instead of penalties... Something like running from the halfway line one on one with goalkeeper. US does things more by the book the international way now though.
Haven't found out when/where the clock idea was from... But I swear it was same game I saw this weird penalty alternative from:. So it was MLS in the 90's Quote: Shootout 2 OF 10 The North American Soccer League and MLS both tried a variant on the penalty shootout—with players starting 35 yards out and tasked with beating the goalkeeper inside five seconds. This system was last seen in 1999. You could argue it calls for greater skill than a spot-kick shootout, and thus serves as a fairer way of splitting two teams. That said, it's still pitting one man against another.
Only thing i like about Yank sport, you get the full playing time played. **** this "take too long to finish, you set aside part of your day to go and watch a game of football, it ends when the time is played out.
And yet they're all blowing out their arses by the 80th minute. Meanwhile tennis players are good to go for 5 hours.
Would've been harder for the lasers to pinpoint Salah if he was running all the way from the half way line. Just saying.
Not really getting the time wasting stuff as you can only make subs in 3 "windows" plus HT . From what i can make out it was pretty inevitable as FIFA expect leagues to adopt it .
