I'll go out on a limb a little and say that out of the 2 I think Boyd will prove to be best signing of the January window. Gedo will obviously put the chances away, he's one of those strikers who just seems to be in the right place, but I thought Boyd was outstanding on Saturday. He linked up so well with Koren and Elmo and he's exceptionally confident on the ball and most importantly he wants the ball. He said in his interview that he doesn't care where he plays he just wants to be on the ball and that showed yesterday.
I can't understand it myself. It's not something difficult to learn. If you don't have pace or height you will never have them but Simpson just needs to attack the goal a bit more. The frustrating thing is he used to do it constantly. Earlier this season when he scored all his goals he was great, now he's the same player but just seems to have lost the desire to attack the area and it totally takes the edge from his game.
Agreed, Gedo is a goal poacher and that's what a decent team needs. Someone in the right place at the tight time. You won't always get someone to pop up with long range efforts every week. Boyd linked the play up well with the midfielders and everyone i talked to, who were at Bolton, said he looked good when he came on. Shame we'd lost the game by then. When we had Aluko and Simmo upfront, and to a lesser extent Koren, we had both strikers coming deeper to get the ball. Trouble was nobody got in the box afterwards when Elmo or Brady crossed it in. Now Gedo is in there & making a nuisance of himself.
That's the thing, the amount of times he just needed to make a run across the near post where Elmo would ping it across he could be in double figures easily. It is really strange I can't understand how he hasn't seen himself that he isn't making the right runs into the box.
