He wasn't a player, he was a "minder". His job was to look after Le Tiss, hence his little involvement with Keane
Stuart Ripley, awful player. Obviously Speedie and Dixon were shocking. Amongst the best Bally, Jimmy Case and my personal favourite Frank Worthington. Biggest bargain, Mark Wright
I have to admit to being totally biased when it comes to Saints players...as soon as they pull on the red/white or red/touch of white, I want to believe the best of them. I think I spot the better players and assume the others are okay....glass half full kind of person I guess. We are a different team now than when I started watching (towards the last few years at The Dell)...an average player sticks out like a sore thumb.
Not a bad selection although I thought Dixon was OK and although I liked him, I don't think Worthington was all that great for us. Ripley is the interesting one. We got him and Beattie in the same deal. I remember Ripley saying that he understood why he was involved but he was surprised that Blackburn let Beattie go. Got that right! Actually, Ripley was unlucky. He got selected for England and was injured in the first few minutes. He never really recovered.
Yep. Although Frank was at the tail-end of his top flight career he was superb. He was probably the most technically gifted player in the team at the time, such was his level of skill. Another player of flair and vision which England didn't make full use of because he didn't run his legs into the ground.
