Breezy, we all agree that our passing game is great and we want to stay with it but we need to do it better in the final third. Your points: 1) Agreed. 2) Partially agree. Teams have now worked us out as we have become predictable. They sit off us and defend in the final third knowing that we usually break down there. Our goals "for" stats are pretty bad and we need to open these "passing lanes" in that final third to get more clean strikes at goal. 3) I don't see too much evidence of teams tiring against us in the last 20 minutes - matter of fact, this was supposed to be the case last season in the Championship. But if anything, it was our opponents who usually came on strong in that period. I lost count of the number of times that I nearly s**t myself when we were desperately hanging on to protect a narrow lead or whatever. Norwich City was the team that seemed to tire out other sides and they probably gained promotion with the goals they scored in the last few minutes of games. Far, far, superior to our record and, for me, they have always looked a stronger, fitter and more athletic outfit than us. There are more pros than cons to our game but that is dictated to a large extent by the fact that we are unable to play any other way. We must/should carry on doing it but we must also find ways to be more effective at turning those passes, that possession into goals. Over to you, Buck.
In the end , there is only winning & a million ways to do it . Our way is a networking system of passing & it doesn't take superstars or there wages to play it . I couldn't be happier at the way we've spent on players & the way we've kept what we had . I enjoy the minutes Williams , Gower , Britton , Allen , Monk & Dyer are getting . The players brought this style all the way from League 1 to the Premier and all are making great contributions along the way . A couple more quality guys to gel in to the team & more of the same for me
If you just take the time and listen to football people who knows what they are talking about then the feeling is we play attractive football with no end result and because of that changes need to be made in how we approach every individual game, take our away form or instance.....we usually have most of the possession with no end result and the reason is that teams have been practising all week on how to nullify our game to their advantage....like Norwich.Blackburn etc.........football pundits love the way we play the game but admit we dont have the strength or firepower to stay up and unless we recruit much stronger and more skillful players then what we have and how we play wont be enough to keep us up.....
£5m, that should buy you alot (not), surely its worth pushing the boat out, i know huw is a miser (according to some on here) but why not give brendan the best possible chance of not only buying people to avoid relegation but to finish as high up in the table as possible, the margins are so tight between say, 17th and 10th that buying the right people in january could be crucial..
It's all about staying up , 17th is as good as 10th at the end of the season . We've spent a ton less money than Cardiff , never had the " Bellamys, Bothroyds or Chopras , but we eat from a higher table . It's not superstar transfers that got us here , just like Malky's trying to enshrine in Cardiff players & fans . Thanks for the advice on transfers though & goodluck
From League 1 to the Premier in 4 seasons with no end result .... hmmm ?... errrmmmmmmmm you do know we are on about here and now and not in the past.. If you think we are strong enough because we had a bit of luck against fulham then you dont understand football one iota....we have not won an away game yet and have been hammered by most of them with ease,...strong enough my arse..
We 've had major success the past 4 seasons amongst complaining from a section of fans that our players weren't good enough at any given time . Were in 11th place in the Premier so far this season & nothing has changed in the complaining department , didn't think it would
Silly you indeed ! All you've done is complain that no manager has had any backing & were going nowhere because of it ..... 4 the last 4 seasons . I want new players as much as the next guy , just not on a grand scale to upset the team concept . A couple of quality guys & carry on . We just got Caulker & Agustien back , were looking good for the Christmas run . I don't see us spending more than 5,000,000 in January , mostly on defense , time will tell though
interesting how you divert attention to cardiff to avoid the point, the point is that £5m is hardly anything at this level, you're not in the championship remember, you need to spend some decent money to stay where you are, if you think you can get away with buying players for £2m or £3m you're seriously deluded. blackpool, burnley were in similar positions to where swansea were, they didnt push the boat out in swansea and both got relegated, now both teams are average championship teams..
I'm not diverting anything , just stating your advise didn't do much for you swamp & our frugalness has done wonders for us . were not Blackpool or anyone else , we are the same team we've always been , successful within value . A lot of teams below us right know that spent" Money that must be spent to stay up "
What a ridiculous thread this has turned into. Everyone agrees that we need to be more clinical in the final third, and to do so, we must commit more players into that area. Everyone knows that we could improve on the speed with which we counter attack teams. But there should never, ever, be a change to the philosophy of the football club. Leon Britton moved to Sheffield United and was a round peg in a square hole. When you look at our team as it is, if we changed our style of play, we'd actually have a full squad of round pegs and a full board of square holes. It would be chaos, and we'd need to learn a completely new style of play, and replace half of our squad. It's already been said, but I will reiterate the point. The style that we play is the correct style, the problem lies with the fact that we need to become even better at it. We need to replace a few of the squad to bring the overall squad level up to a higher level. I don't know the figures, but I wouldn't expect more than £10million to be spent this January. Even if we spent that much, I'd probably still be a little blown away that we actually did.
