Winning cups... Tbh that's our only hope this season anyway. The champions league was once seen as a gateway to relevance, but it's now just an opportunity to play some big clubs and a good experience. It's all set up to ensure the same clubs go far every year anyway.....the **** clubs are essentially sold a day in the sun... A be happy to take part holiday.

Quite why anyone would rather just play and eventually get beat in the Champions league over winning a major trophy is mental to me, but each to their own.

It’s all about the money. Get in the Champions League often enough then it gets you the money and players to have a chance of winning it.
For now though I still went for the FA Cup cos I want to see us win it in my lifetime and I think the Europa League is very winnable for the following season when we also get into the top four

The 1st part is the problem... Essentially it's get into the champions league consistently for about a decade straight while 6 other clubs can spend 3 times as much every year.... if you're caught spending more than you're allowed you will be punished.

I agree the Europa league has been made easier to win than the league Cup now.. No CL teams in it.

it’s only GG who has voted for the CL option thus far.

FA Cup win. Finishing in a Champions League spot isn't really a challenge to us any more -twice in 3 years, its almost becoming expected :emoticon-0140-rofl:

I have my reasons. For us to catch up with the top six financially we have to be sustainably in the CL each season.

We've finished 4th, 7th and 5th the last 3 seasons, this averages at 5th position so we clearly are in the top 6. Your reasons make no sense.

Well, the counter argument would therefore be how would you feel if we finished say 12th or even lower this season? If the answer is angry / upset, then GG has a perfectly valid point. He wants us to maintain that top level status in CL. That way we steadily grow, long term.

Both answers are perfectly valid. Maintaining CL status is good for revenue and for attracting and retaining top quality players.

But for me, you can't top the magic of winning trophies, trips to Wembley, fans all celebrating together. Good times.

But that's just a personal view. I completely understand GG's perspective too.

Argument of finishing 4th over winning the FA cup is ludicrous, we've finished in the top 4 countless times it doesn't bring trophies, we won our first one in 70 years last season and the FA Cup is a more prestigious trophy. Winning trophies are honours, qualifying for the CL is not.

Besides we why do we have to offset it against finishing 12th? We could finish 6th and win the FA cup, which would be a brilliant season. Winning the FA cup does automatically mean having a bad league season.

It doesn't, it just means we could finish ANYWHERE outside of top 4. Maybe even relegation, but still win a cup.

Like I said, I voted for cup, as the whole experience of winning trophies is huge. I'm just saying I do understand why someone might want sustained top 4 and associated CL qualification. That doesn't make it ludicrous at all. Just a different view.
