I spent Canada Day in downtown Vancouver and everything was open as usual which I thought was strange, I assumed the entire place would be shut down for the day.

BC is far more civilized than Ontario (specifically) "Toronto the good".

Stella was a premium beer back in the mid 80s, even if you could get it in Cheese. Now it's the wifebeater's choice
Budvar is another one that got bought out and went industrial.

Never been the same here as in Belgium. No one used to best their wives up after drinking it in Belgium.
The elderly Czech bloke who first put me onto Staporamen said a lot of Czechs didn't rate Budvar as highly as a lot on non Czechs.That was way back as well.

We also escaped from The Septic Isle 30 years ago almost to the day (July 10, 1986), from one corporate sector to another.

I left 50 years ago this month and said goodbye to the corporate sector( ICI Australia) in 1986 aged 46.
