Burgess then. Although don't see why Campbell couldn't be in there, sure he was on loan but he wore the Hull City shirt and was a Hull City player. He wont make the 11 anyway so doesnt really matter

Not much mention of Billy Bremner anywhere. Like him or loathe him, he was the best player in the division by a street when he played for the mighty tigers.

    A never-ending debate.
Is this people who contributed just to Hull City or other achievements with other Clubs.
Anyone who saw Vigo Jensen play would never leave him out of the 'all-time great' side as he was also a Danish international who could play anywhere on the park.
The same could be said for Raich Carter who's great days for us were in the old third division but who won FA Cup medals either side of World War 2 whilst a First Division player and was an international too. During that era we had the likes of Billy Bly, Tom Berry and Bill Harris who could arguably lay claim to a spot although it was different game then.
I watched the great "Waggy and Co" team just before I migrated and just about all of them could lay a claim to a place in the 'all stars'. However, as good as Ian Butler was, Eddie Burbanks was the best left winger that Hull City ever had but Ian gave him a mighty run for his money.
We could also mention the likes of Don Revie and Stan Pearson who went on do to their best work for other clubs whilst others like Neil Franklin, Stan Mortensen and Wilf Mannion were ex-internationals who were way past their best when they came to us.
    Never-ending.

Billie Bly and Jock Davidson would have to be included in any squad . I too liked Eddie Burbanks but think Ian Butler had the better ball control .I see Bill Bradbury hasn't had a mention but Tom Berry certainly worth a shout even against more recent centre backs. Current day set ups make it more difficult to choose players for positions than it did in the old format having a five man forward line 3 midfielders and two fullbacks.I still see the simply logic of having defenders doing their own job and forwards theirs .Floating formations often leave great holes in midfield or conversely great bottlenecks with no frontmen to receive the ball . There is a real lack of quality box to box players and most teams are unsuccessful trying to use wingbacks to supplement the strikers .

I can relate to Ian Butler's ball control as I (and many others) were absolutely amazed as a long high ball would be sent across field to the left wing and would come down with snow on it and to see Ian trap it was almost unbelieveable.
Yes, a different game these days but it began to change when Sir Alf Ramsey was one of (if not the) first to bring his full backs into attack down the flanks to create chances.
Do you remember Billy Bly being at Hull Fair where you paid a tanner to try and put the ball past him? Don't think they get paid in pennies these days.

As dj said there are many variables, but based on watching City since 92 my favourite (not necesserily best) XI would be:

    -----------------Fettis------------------
    Ricketts—Dewhurst—Doncel—Rioch
    Peacock—Ashbee—Brabin—Mann
    --------Windass---Darby-----------

That's a brilliant 'favourite' XI. I think the only changes I'd make would be Dawson for Ricketts (and shift Rioch over to the right), Elliott for Brabin (Mann into the middle) and Barmby upfront instead of Darby.

Bench: Myhill, Linton Brown, Burgess, Brabin, Whittle, Ricketts, Geovanni

    Manager: Warren Joyce

some really bad teamswith some really bad players in mentioned above, how on earth could Brabin, Mann, Graham, Rioch etc be in City's "Greatest" ever team when we almost went into the Conference with these guys? They battled hard BUT not ouir greatest players. We have to remember the last 3 years have been our most successful of all time, we got in the Prem and even had an FA Cup 6th Rd tie too - unusual territory for the Tigers so taking that into account and all I've read about our history etc the team would be:

Mgr: Brian Horton (had a great spell in the 1980's and was unlucky to be sacked and was instrumental as asssitant with us getting in the Premier League)

    Tony Norman

    Andy Davidson
    Michael Turner
    Richard Jobson
    Peter Daniel

    Brian Marwood
    Gary Parker
    Raich Carter

    Geovanni

    Ken Wagstaff
    Dean Windass

    Subs:

    Ian Ashbee
    Nick Barmby
    Billy Askew
    Keith Edwards
    Chris Chilton

I think you'll find my post said 'based on watching City since 92 my favourite (not necesserily best) XI'

My best XI would be vastly different, but we don't all live in the KC glory years, I have some of my fondest City memories from the 90's and from being at Boothferry so my XI was based on my personal experiences!

Oh yeah, Theo and Goodison should be in there. Even a favourites XI is hard.

In a way I preferred it when we were crap and you could really like a player for his cult status because of some random reason rather than his ability to play football or fact that he cost us over a million pounds. Paul fewings was one of my favourite players simply because he was the first player to play for City that was younger than me (and I finally gave in that the dream was over). Ah nostalgia, it's not what it used to be....

Paul John Fewings (born 18 February 1978) is an English former footballer who played as a striker in the Football League for Hull City.[1] He went on to play non-league football for Hereford United, Boston United, Kingstonian on loan,[2] Farnborough Town on loan,[3] Chesham United, Hendon on loan,[4] Billericay Town,[5] Bishop's Stortford on loan,[6] Chesham United again,[5] Kettering Town,[7] Cambridge City[8] and Bedford Town.[9]

    Kinda went downhill after City!

I believe he once played upfront with Gav Gordon in a strikeforce with the combined age of 33. Compare that to when Deano and Barmby played upfront together, combined age of over 70.

Started going when my old man took me in the early eighties but it's the 90s I look back on with fondest memories. Definitely sounds like we're on the same page. As good as things have been over recent years I miss Boothferry and all the players of those days even more. If you don't know who Michael Quigley is then you've never lived as a City fan as far as I'm concerned!
