We're talking relative aren't we? Wenger has won titles for Arsenal, numerous trophies, and then atrophied over the last 10 years. Bruce got us promoted, longest Cup runs in both competitions, but has shown an ineptness to adapt tactically, saw us relegated, and is under no pressure this season. Not sure how this is a discussion when Bruce has himself said the owners here are more forgiving and he would have been turfed out at most other clubs and that's why he loves it here.
Of course he's under pressure. Don't believe everything you read in newspapers. Who said he has shown an 'ineptness to adapt tactically' ? You and a dozen or so posters on a message board ? Let's leave that judgement to the end of the season eh ? Currently I see us with another great chance to win automatic promotion to the Premier League, under Steve Bruce. Not sure how this is even a discussion that fans of Hull City can consider him as a failure. Terry Dolan was a failure, two relegations on the bounce and knocked out of the FA Cup by a non league team, yet rewarded with an extended contract. Not to mention the club going with a begging bowl to the High Court and having to plead for clemency with the clubs very existence hanging on the whim of the Judge of the day. Short memories.
So because we used to be **** in the fourth tier we should happily accept mediocrity at whatever level we currently play? That's drivel and tosh.
Mediocrity doesn't get you to 3rd place in the Championship, two points behind second with a game in hand with nine games to play. The only drivel and tosh I see on here is yours and others sky high expectations based on **** all.
We have sky high expectations because of how much has been spent on the squad, and the sort of football that team should be able to produce. The failings of Bruce have been consistent each season. If we don't go up this season would you be happy to keep Bruce because "We're top half of the Championship, we should be grateful to be here."?
'We' who's we ? If spending money means success how come Leicester are top of the Premier League and Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and the rest of the billionaire clubs are hanging onto their shirt tails ? Burnley and Boro, two of the best teams in the Championship this season were beaten out of sight by Steve Bruces failures this season at the KC by a sort of football produced by the inept tactical manager that is SB. I have not seen any City team play any better then that. Perhaps you have ? Leave your judgement until the end of the season and with a bit of luck City might miss out on promotion by a point and those you refer to as 'we' can post all day on here and blow smoke up each others arses about how you knew all along that Steve Bruce wasn't the man for the job.
This type of post is very silly. As if posting his frustrations on a forum means he isn't getting behind the team.
Irony being that I'm one of the few saying we shouldn't panic at the moment despite not beating MK Dons. A lot on here are pretty critical of Bruce at the moment, but good on you for sticking with him.
Perhaps not but where do you think the media get their 'some fans are questioning Hull City's credentials as a promotion team' from ?
How does 'posting his frustrations' come to mean getting behind the team? Can't he 'post his frustrations' about our rivals' deficiencies, it might help cheer up some on here.
... I know we struggle in some games and sometimes the manager might appear to have lost the plot and so on but we are where we are and I don't recall many times in my lifetime when Hull City with nine games to go have been in this position at this level. Its almost unknown territory for this club yet it's not good enough for some. That's what I don't understand. It's hard enough without our own fans doubting us and giving the local media all the ammunition they need to play the negative card, because believe me there are plenty in our own city who are willing us to fall flat on our faces.
Link? I can't believe we have turds who can't stomach us only drawing a home league game at half-time. Please tell me this is not true?
A home game against a team 21st in the table, absolutely no excuse. And it wasn't just the score, it was the performance. Even you Mr 'Tiger tinted eyeballs' must have seen that the performance was awful. Oh we managed to rescue a point after going behind? Well, go us! Stop ****ing calling people out for being pissed off, we're allowed to be pissed off because it's starting to look like we are choking. We all know what's at stake, some of us aren't happy kicking back and chilling out while we shoot ourselves in the foot. Oh but the other teams won't win and that'll get us promoted? That's a relief, let's rely on the other teams ****ing up, like we did last time, that'll definitely work. Remember that time we nearly won the FA Cup? Remember that time we nearly got to the Europa League group stages? Remember that time we should've stayed in the Premier League but missed out even though we tried really hard not to? Remember all those Premier League games we nearly won but didn't for some reason? Fond memories of not winning, there. Stop acting like everything is rosy and face facts, this is the season to be promoted. If the players aren't taking it as seriously as the fans are we have a problem and if a manager with a proven record for promoting teams can't "put his finger on the problem", that's when the alarm bells should be ringing. How **** we used to be has absolutely no bearing on this season, or any other season since. I don't care how many away days you had to suffer at Macclesfield or Torquay, I suffered the same in the 90s, so the **** what? Why look at where we've come from as a comparison? It doesn't make failing to get promotion any less painful just because we were once in the bottom division. That's a typical older generation viewpoint (sorry to generalise but I find it is usually the older fans who think like this) that our painful past means we can accept being a Championship side who aren't bothered about being promoted to the Premier League. Well we can't. We aren't that kind of club and that's a stupid way to think. Promotion means a literal ****-ton of cash for us, two seasons up there would make us self sustaining and not over-reliant on stupid owners. If that wasn't enough of an incentive to get promoted, I don't know what would be. So yeah, get behind the team, celebrate the wins. But get off your high horse; the stakes are high this season, higher than ever before and that's going to make people worried when we don't win. That's allowed, it's fine. Not only does it encourage debate but it also allows people to vent frustration at not beating bollocks teams like Rotherham and MK Dons.
I don't disagree with much of what you say here, and while I'm one of the older supporters that you identify I'm definitely not a "bring back 1990s Hull City" type. But I would offer you two quick observations. One, I support a football team and want them to win enjoyable football matches, not a bank balance. You do quite often appear to measure City's success by the latter measure, which I find difficult to accept. And two, if one accepts your monetary measure of success, our two trips to the Premier League have cost Hull City about £30m in debts each time (probably a bit more the second time), despite us both times being beguiled by the immense tv rights riches on offer. So this idea that the club will be raking it in financially if we go up again is simply not supported by the facts. It's the players that always get the PL money on offer (and some), not the football club. Even when the relatively (and commendably) frugal Allams are in charge.
