Loads of players with not much pace have succeeded as the lone front man. Pace isn't compulsory for the role.
It depends how you're going to play as to what type of striker fits a lone striker role. If we're going to look to quickly get it in behind, Long does suit it. If we're going to hit crosses into the box, Jelavic suits it. If we're going to attack from midfield, have a striker with the skills to keep hold of it whilst the midfielders make the runs and play them in, Sagbo suits it. If we're going to Pulisball, Sagbo and Jelavic both suit it a bit, though neither of them dive anywhere near enough.

Sagbo does... his hold up play is amazing and he's got a good shot on him. With much better attacking support behind him I think he could flourish in that setup
Agreed, in a 4231 the lone front man's job is to bring the 3 behind him into play and he is very good at that. One major problem is that he is positionally poor and struggles to stay central, drifting out to the wings too much. With some coaching aimed at improving that aspect I think he could be a very good player.
