Afternoon all!

Do you think that there are too many races which are just aimed for three year olds? The Derby, Guineas, St Leger and other Group 1 races are aimed at this age, but I believe that it would be nice to see horse come back again and again to retain their titles. For example, Midday and the Nassau Stakes. It just seems a shame that horses can only win the same race 1 for most of the prestigous races. There are no issue with the jumps and it is great to see the old warriors back defending their titles. Kauto Star Springs to mind.

Thoughts?

The majority of races for 3yo only are early in the season because 3yos are not considered mature enough to take on older horses until the summer of their 3yo year.

The 3yo year is considered the "Classic", and most important, season for a Flat horse so there is no way they'd consider opening the Classics to older horses.

The Irish St Leger is all-age <laugh>

But seriously - there are plenty of all-age G1s, the classics should remain what they are - 3YOs only

As far as I'm concerned, all this Classic stuff is ageist. The youngies get all the good stuff, while the oldies like Swanny get bugger all. In light of this, I think they should have at least one G1, flat race per season, run over two miles, for maidens, eight years and older. Of course they have to be gelded, so I suppose that gets the honourable Stick a run as well. <whistle>
