The fat Argy has already stated publicly he is not the man to take them forward. After 4 bitterly disappointing years at a club with no ambition other than being a cash cow for it's spivvy directors, he see's that Spurs are just a smaller Southampton.

Most Prem clubs don't take the Cup seriously until the quarter finals ... Spurs took the semi seriously enough ...

The FA Cup final is still probably the most watched football game in the world annually ... your argument has several flaws ...

In 20 years, HIAG will tell his grandchildren about the time Spurs had an ok run in the cups and finished third. That’s what fans remember.

Though I doubt it is the most watched game now. Would assume Madrid v Pool will have far more global viewers.

I don’t know about the bottom bit, maybe right but since BT took the rights id imagine they’d lose many viewers who would have watched in the ITV days. Then again both have such big abroad fan bases

All the Asian markets must dwarf any lost British viewers several times over even with the kick-off time not being ideal.

Maybe they’re still big on the cup too, especially as United are playing, but I doubt it’s to the same extent.

Yeah I just thought that after I replied to you and remembered our game against Liverpool in Hong Kong last summer with all the thousands of Liverpool ‘fanatics’! Man U still have a global audience but I can’t see Man U v Chelsea drawing a large audience of people who want to see an entertaining game!

  10. It's watched if United or 'Pool play, sure.

That's because those two clubs have a world-wide plastic audience.

If it was Stoke v Wigan battling it out, no one would give a toss.

  12. I think each of Arsenal and Spurs has a significant presence abroad to make such a match interesting to a world-wide audience.

But that isn't my main point, despite your earnest attempt at wummery, young Custard.

When a foreign mega-star thinks about joining an English club, his agent doesn't say to him, "Hey, Fernando! You simply must join Wigan Athletic! They won the FA Cup in 2013!"

Nah, it's been overtaken by the Champions League final, the FA Cup viewing figures rely on at least one big club taking part.

I find it a bit sad that people would choose qualifying for a competition over winning one tbh.

  16. I'd love for Spurs to win the FA Cup.

However, it is pure romantic fantasising to believe that a club like Spurs, where it is now with its new stadium and with the players that it already has, and the players that it will undoubtedly try to sign in the Summer, can have the luxury of not pushing for a top spot.

If you accept the above, then you also have to accept that we simply do not have the same resources as City, United, 'Pool, Arsenal, and Chelsea. If Poch didn't put everything he has into where we finish in the Prem, our natural position in the pecking order would be 6th.

It's as pure and simple as that.

So, yes - the romantic in me would love to see Spurs at Wembley in the FA Cup Final, with Kane scoring the winning goal, with shades of Ricky Villa and Gazza, and the blue and white army with its rosettes and rattles, but I am a realist. The modern game demands that to be successful and to be able to compete with the biggest clubs, you have to be in the CL.

Like you, Libby, I think that's a sad indictment on modern football, but that's where we are with it.

It’s all about money nowadays mate. And the CL is where the money is, and what attracts players.

HIAG the businessman thinks going for top 4 every year is going to help bring the punters into the club rather than winning pots you see

  20. No.

HIAG the realist knows for certain that Spurs finishing in the top 4 over the next few seasons will fill our coffers with much needed cash to pay for our stadium and continue to permit us the freedom to keep dipping into the transfer market. It will also encourage our best players to stay at the club.

HIAG knows that the overall effect of these things will enable us to remain competitive in both the Prem and in Europe.
