At least we didn't sell our best player which had potential to be even better for 80million only for all the money taken out the club to prop up our owners failing business adventure , would rather break even than see this happen
I explained. I think Giroud and Podolski will have NO problems scoring goals in a side with Carzorla, Sahin, Arteta and Wilshere. Selling players has always been the thing that has kept us from winning trophies in recent years. However you would be foolish to doubt the quality of Wengers aqcuisitions.
I can't until a few months when the people who were slagging off Giroud and and Podolski start hailing them as messiahs when they start knocking in the goals. Anyone who has watched them prior to joining Arsenal can see they're going to do some serious damage in the PL. And anyone who watched the Sunderland game could see they were rusty. Quote me.
People are forgetting that many of our players had only played 45mins together in pre season freindlies
In response to the OP, if the investments in Pods, Carzola and Giroud had been made without us losing our talisman (RVP) and Song (another key member of our team) we could say it was a statement of intent from our club and we are about to bridge the 20points (or so) deficit on average between us and the top 2 clubs. As things stands currently, with the investments and the departures, it is debateable whether we are better equipped this season to improve on our last season's showing......I feel whatever gains we made from the signing of Carzola, has been neutralised by the loss of both Song and RVP. Therefore the net transfer spend of +4mill speaks for itself. On a separate matter, I really wonder why some of our fans appear so bitter at Song's departure? He has gone to Barcelona and has been dignified in his comments so far, whether he makes the bench or the B team we can only wait and see. The club for whatever reasons felt it right to sell and we will wait with baited breath who replaces him, he has not gone on strike and has not put in a written request for a transfer, we cannot even say he has gone because he was going to treble his wages, so the money grabbing element does not fit...... I guess he fits the stereotype of another lazy African player!
I think people are too immotive about players and how good they are. There is no doubt in my mind that players are not "clearly world class" or "Rubbish", it is a far more subtle and constantly changing thing. The one thing I think you can say is that RvP and Song, more than any other two players, dictated our tactics over the last 2 years. IF Wenger was looking to make a change in the way that we played, getting rid of these two was a priority. The press, and the fans will make up a whole bunch of stuff that is more emotional, but the chances are that Wenger just felt he wanted a different approach to our attack and midfield, just like promoting Steve Bould may have been his way of changing the defence. I don't care how much money Arsenal spends. I don't think it matters how much everyone thinks a player is worth, it matters how well he plays when he pulls on an Arsenal shirt. I'd rather we looked at how well we play and what we need, in order to determine what money we need to spend, rather than just buying anyone, simple to reduce the number in the bank account, for appearances sake.
Find it difficult to follow your logic...... I will attempt none the less. The departures was all planned by AW, nothing to do with Song's tardiness and RVP listening to the little boy in him, Wenger wanted to employ a change in tactics so there can be a better balance between midfield and attack....... Hmm very interesting. Silly me thinking Song and RVP forced their respective moves!
Arsegun, I will admit that it's very previous but it's not ridiculous. I hope Podolski and Giroud will score plenty, but if they don't do you have confidence in Chamack, Arshavin, Park or Gervinho. If so you are in a minority. If we have to wait until December then we are chasing our backsides. By then Man City Man United and Chelsea will be out of sight. For me we should have done all transfer deals well before the beginning of the season to give the new players time to bed in. But I say again who will be sold next year, this is my concern
Giroud, Podolski, Walcott will get most of our goals and with players like Cazorla, Wilshere, Sahin in midfield there should be plenty of opportunities. It will be a shared burden with more goals and assists chipped in from the midfield than last season. As for your lack of faith in our fringe players: Arshavin has never had a problem getting goals and assists, he has been very productive in the offensive department, his problem has been in his defensive duties and fitness, his motivation seemed to have gone last season. If he starts to play again he will continue to contribute it's just if the he can up the other elements of his game. At the euroes he was absolute quality. Gervinho adds a lot to the team, he is quick, direct and goes past his man - his final ball needs work and he needs to remember where the back of the net is, but he's a good player. I don't expect him to score loads but he deserves his place in the squad. Chamakh and Park won't get much game time and i'd expect one or both may leave the club within the next year. I also notice you have a dig at Diaby - he is a beast. He has shown great potential and has been hampered by injuries. Whenever he is fit he starts for France and if he can get over his injury problems he is a great player to have in the squad. I think Santos will suprise you as well. Despite a suspect start to his time at Arsenal where he looked out of shape and just not ready to play. He ended up being statistically our best defender until he got injured. He is better than he is given credit for defensively and fantastic going forward. He also has that typical Brazlian confidence in his ability which is nice (Clichy always looked scared!).
I have a feeling that some people care more about the price we bought the players for than who we actually bought. Would you have been happier if we got Cazorla, Giroud and Podolski for £20m each?
You may have that feeling but you are wrong. My point is that we do not have enough good players to mount a sustained campaign on the EPL. We are diluting our quality every year by selling our best players and replacing them with others of a lesser standard, and I defy anyone on this board to argue against that. I want to know the reason for that, and I suspect it is about our "financial model" if you are happy to see this decline continue that is up to you, I'm not.
You have just told me how good our players are and then itemised all their weaknesses. If Diaby stays fit, if Gervinho remembers where the net is, if Arshavin starts to work harder, Santos was the best of a very poor defence. It is this acceptance of second best that will prevent a real challenge to the top clubs
Sell a player 1 season after he is bought Verm said he'll never leave Kos has a long term contract Sagna has a long contract plus he's actually loyal Wishere is Arsenal through and through
RvP, Nasri were pricks. Song is an idoit for leaving. cesc was always going to Barca. That's just 4 players. We've bought Podolski, and established International, Giroud, Ligue 1's top scorer, and Cazorla, a top player. We'll also get Sahin, maybe M'Villan and maybe Llorente.
How long was Nasri a gunner or Adebayor, if City offer stupid money Kroenke wiil accept it Verm said he would never leave..........so did Van Persie Kos has a long term contract..............so did Song Sagna has a long time contract...........so did Clichy Wilshere is Arsenal through and through..so was Henry.
If you want to go around all depressed be my guest. The rest of us will look forward towards this season.
