I have to agree , but they are different players , Roberts used his pace and guile to outwit Fonte time and time again , he has no pace , what good will no pace be in the Premiership (unless you are World class) do for the team ?

Ask Rio Ferdinand. Captain of the champions, I could probably run quicker.

Once upon a time Ferdinand was pretty fast.

Couldn't agree more - when Hooiveld dealt with Roberts in the second half there was a huge difference. I can see one or two players being sent to spend their summers in the gym. Work to be done as ever on the training ground and tactics board as otherwise we'll all be terribly unhappy next season, and no-one wants that!

Overall I thought we played Reading off the pitch- at one point we had 69% of the possession at 1-1.

However, not for the first time, we squandered way too many chances and Reading proved what happens when you are clinical with them. 3 shots, 3 goals!

I thought Fonte had an off night against a very effective Roberts - but lets not forget he is a Premiership quality striker who only stopped playing for Blackburn because of his contract. For those knocking Fonte, I think he is a good player. He rarely makes big crunching tackles, but his reading of the game is impeccable is a generally a good distributor from the back.

I personally thought Cork had a very quiet game and Chaplow had 'one of those games' where nothing went right. Also thought Jos really ought to have scored at least once.

Frustrating night, but plenty of positives all the same.

True, it was tongue in cheek though.

Franny Benali could still do a turn , I know Case is better than Hammond even after a session on the ale , and where is Razor ?

To be honest Roberts showed Fonte a clean pair of heels mostly during his whole game. Fonte did not have the nous to cope with him. We were undone by quality some thing we lack a bit in midfield. We have good players there but some are not of good quality. While I understand why Nigel brought De Ridder on, it was a big mistake in my book. At that time Saints were pressing very well Chaplow played ok and was getting into the box and making good passes. De Ridder gave them a nightmare while he was on but it left Butters exposed at times which they exploited. Yes it is true also to say Fox made two errors of judgement which cost us two goals. So all in all we made three mistakes and they scored three goals. Just the same as it will be in the premier.

I agree , this is why if we are fortunate enough to get promoted we can not play him .

Fonte is struggling for form. Can't remember his last dominant display and he looks tired.

Martin should partner Jos on Tuesday

Fonte hasn't looked on form all season!!!. Not been at the races at all. Seaborne was making up for him early on, then Martin and now Hooiveld.

I heard from Rickie after the game...He thought we were robbed..he was shellshocked saying we'd dominated for 90 minutes and that he can't remember a game like it in his career.

The Leeds players ended up losing and they battered us far more than we did reading tonight .

Martin on Tuesday I think, maybe Fonte has taken his place for granted?
