Bristol City get their man as Robins beat three EFL rivals to win race for Sinclair Armstrong Bristol City have been frontrunners throughout the process to sign Sinclair Armstrong but late interest from Stoke City, Birmingham City and Sunderland threatened to scupper the deal https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-city-sinclair-armstrong-signings-9419235
I thought it was between us and Stoke ? edit I didn’t see the post above naming Birmingham and Sunderland, although my understanding was the other 2 only came in later once the deal was all but done.
You’re welcome to him. 3 goals, two of which hit him and went in on the goal line, in 60 games. He’s fast and very strong and scares defenders. But he can’t control the ball at all, he’s just not a natural footballer. As far as I can remember he has never lasted a complete game (though he was rarely a starter), seems to tire very quickly and his temperament is dodgy, body language shocking when things don’t go his way, and likes to push and shove defenders who regularly own him. He does have a 15 minute goal celebration routine though. To be fair he is a deeply divisive figure, many (like me obviously) look at him as a comedy player, and on occasion an embarrassment. Many others get excited by his raw strength and bang on about his potential - though at 21 he’s not a kid anymore. If he really cost you £2.5m (absolutely unbelievable) I hope for your sake he improves a bit. Good luck, except for the obvious, for next season.
To be honest Manning and Tinnion would not spend 2+ million on a donkey-if they have they would be under the cosh. They obviously see something he can bring to the team-We over the last few years have been very lightweight upfront something i personally have said for a few years now. He will bring some strength up front and with the other new striker and the Japanese winger who both have pace should make for interesting times this coming season.
When I see a supposed bang-on good signing I always like to look a little deeper and always ask the question as to why the player chose us instead of others. There is something deep in the woods on this guy and until I see proof of his commitment and temperament to both his play and personal attributes I will hold my opinion on whether or not he will become an asset worthy of joining Bristol City. As far as the comment about Tinnion not being involved in poor signing decisions I will hold my tongue because he certainly is more than capable of making gaffs here and there. Sinclair looks to be a big-un and as long as he uses that size for a footballing advantage then I have no quarrels but he needs to keep focused on what he could be and forget all of the other nonsense that can ruin a career in an instance. Let's hope the good luck welcomes will make him realize that being a team player is more important when you arrive at the hallowed gates of Ashton Gate.
Exclusive: Tommy Conway exiled from Bristol City first team as contract saga takes fresh turn Tommy Conway's 14 years with Bristol City looks to be coming to a disappointing end https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/tommy-conway-bristol-city-contract-9421002
A legend in his own mind and I must confess it annoys me somewhat when our academy products do this to the team that essentially gave them the opportunity and surroundings to play football at a decent level. Turning on your employer because you think you are better than the set-up they provide smacks of smugness and is a slap in the face to those who got you where you are today. Move on young man and although nobody associated with BCFC wishes you anything but success your actions will leave a long standing bad taste in the mouth for your soon to be ex-team mates. Personal growth and ambition is all very well and good but you obviously need a lesson in courtesy and respect.
Twine scored 3 for Burnley in a recent friendly. IMO it makes it a lot less likely he'll sign for us. Our new strikers will need 'feeding' from midfield, without a Twine they/we will struggle.
I agree RP. Granted it's not my money but I do believe we should have been more positive and stumped up the fee earlier given he is LM's priority target and would build his side around him
pretty much had the same opinion...EOS .... City management seems to be operating in a 2 dimensional plane when it should be 3 dimensional .... City is becoming the team of lost opportunities. OF course we would never know how "not buying a player" would have panned out for us but theorectically if we finish 7th and Twine had been an option not taken could be that in 46 games just 1 or 2 extra goals would have meant just an extra 2 or 3 points! or worse still a GD decision where we needed 2 goals to have finished 6th!
TBF a deal couldn't be done until Burnley found a replacement for Kompany. But now with Parker in charge he may well have a different view of Twine.... scoring 3 goals recently certainly hasn't helped our cause. IF we get a chance to buy him, I hope JL for the sake of an extra £1million doesn't back off. I believe Twine is the right player we need to balance up our midfield.
Sinclair was a big favourite with us QPR fans. Explosive pace and strength but his finishing was wayward/hapless. Numerous times he got over-excited when through on goal and missed sitters. The less time to think about it (ie his thunderbolt at Leicester last season, seconds after coming on) the better his finish was. An annoying habit of wandering offside and a short temper making him easy to wind up didn't help. Sad to see him go as there is so much potential there if he gets his confidence going. Starting every game would help rather than the sub we'd throw on with 10 minutes to go when we got desperate. Seems like a good deal for all parties. We get a decent fee for a player who refused to sign a new contract and so would lose for nowt next summer. You get a potentially exciting young striker. And if he rips it up and the Premier League come calling, we'll get a cut of your monster transfer fee. And Shamrock get their £600k sell on fee. By all accounts, a decent lad too so I hope it works out for him. Just not against us, obvs.
