    Gand against Bayern today.

    Ali
    Taa Matip vvd robbo
    szobo mac jones
    salah gakpo jota

looks like the midfield is getting plenty game time together so assume will be the midfield 3 that starts the season for us.

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Jones, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Jota, Salah, Gakpo.

Subs: Adrian, Kelleher, Mrozek, Gomez, Konate, Diaz, Nunez, Elliott, Tsimikas, Clark, Scanlon, Doak, McConnell, Koumas, Quansah, Frauendorf.

    subs also.

    this is really annoying now.

If we start matip v cheslea we might as well give a walkover. I assume konate as one of these minor knocks.

the forwards seeing nunez and diaz on the bench is massive.

    I'm wathcing.

We have jota at far post and bayern just slung two corners across over the big men's heads and are attacking our far post and destroying us. We had this issue last year as well and were torn up. We really need to address this far post zone.

I think it’ll be this team that starts v chelsea with Konate in for Matip.

Salah gakpo Jota is a safer bet than nunez and diaz who are more unpredictable

We are basically getting away with murder <laugh>

Szoboszlai, MAcallister and trent have all given someone a good dig that might get a yellow for just stopping a break.

They've got one or two in as well.

cut open again. They walked through us. ball down our right. matip stays central and didn't come over so gnabry can pick our runner for tap in.

far too easy to walk through us from a nothing position.

    Same weaknesses on show.

    Overall a decent half.

I love szobolzai. he's a cheeky so and so.

I think macallister struggled a bit with the sapce and what bayern delivered.

Jone did alright but its not his natural game to put a foot in and kick someone.

Matip wasn't that bad, he did a few god things there.

I'm concerned that we haven't signed a single defender. We were short before, we've lost Milner our main RB cover. I think TAA will be moved around more between RB and DM.

Even if we have midfield fixed, I feel like our back line is now going to be the problem midfield was last year.

Our forward line isn't as good as 4 or 5 years ago... We can't expect to just outscore everyone and ignore defence.

Acres of space for them to attack down our right, as usual. I rarely criticise team tactics but I just don't understand how this system is meant to work with Trent in the middle, unless we bring in a proper RB.
Again Salah is isolated with no-one to overlap him.
It's the same all the time. Baffling.

I've said for a while that I don't think we should be looking at two more midfielders. If choices have to be made, urgent attention needs paying to the back line, which is in a worse state than the midfield.
We've surely learned our lesson from a few years ago?

it only works if the other full back is not actually a full back going forward.

i.e. its a genuine 3 at the back and that RCB just goes out and covers that space.

It only works if salah is in effect a right side midfielder rather than forward as he has to track full backs

Man city do not play this system.

they play stones up and no LB (or RB now)

in effect its 4 cbs and the central one moves up beside rodri. they then have 4 cms strung across with haaland being a big lump up top.

the wide players have a major major responsibility to defend in that system.

In effect we have to call trent the RCB here moving forward and then matip the RB! the problem is trent is still out side at times and sometimes running on like a 10.

    if you are a 6 then be a 6.
