Hey ho conference season .... Labour first!!!! day one 2 things stickout . [re ] RISE of the republican labour party that wants to get rid of the monarchy and to have an elected president who would be in charge of all things the monarchy does, so basically the end of the commonwealth???? stopping the simplification of the tax system by readding the 45p rate? lets see how that equates , around 600,000 pay tax at 45p [ extra rate ] earning £150k or more so save 5p in the £, around 250, 000 of those are above £300k [ different sources use different dates / amount levels but close ] over 6,000,000 earn 40p middle rate [ [known as high rate at current 40p ]. SO 40p NOT 45p simplifies tax [ bit like a lot of pubs rounding beer off to round figures [ eg £3.80 to £4 in 3 of those I may have a pint in! ] Fairer tax? well very complicated, thats why it becomes a simple to just bash it attitude! what if someone, probably out there somewhere, was to say .. Joe Bloggs annual income £30K with common taxes income/vat/ savings/NI etc pays .... 37% of his earnings and joe richchap earns £200k pa and pays 55.6% of his income in tax would that workbetter?
Labour would reverse the government's cut to the top rate of income tax, leader Sir Keir Starmer has said........ He told the BBC the move was "the wrong choice" during a cost-of-living crisis. But Sir Keir said he supported the decision to cut the basic rate of tax from 20% to 19% as this would "reduce the tax burden on working people". He doesnt say it will Also have a small affect on higher earners like 40p [or if not reducing it on those paying 45p.] I learned years ago in the 60's tax is what you make it! looks to be unfair and some people cut off their nose to spite their face with the attitude " not doing overtime as I get taxed on it" [ comments made last by some workers!!! ha ha ha ha ........ workmates back then always wondered how I managed to have more than them ... a pint was less than 10p petrol was 6s 4d ... a gallon....thats 6- 7p a litre ...... a night in Hofbrew house, or 3 pints in local pub, top rank /or ? + a gallon petrol and change from a £1!!!! ALL mates, earned say £100 a week and paid income tax at say 20p on all earnings over £30 so take home was [- 70x20p ] = £82.50. I did overtime say 4 hours at x1.5 = 6 hours say + £15 [they went home and watched 1 of the 2 TV channels or read the paper and had their tea on time!] 15 x 20p = -£3 so take home £99.50. ... I paid £3 tax .. ok so I worked first hour for .75p but ended up +£12 ............... [ back then 60's it was £sd ] all my socialising mates from work did overtime .. they saw my light ... should have not persuaded them... meant I got less OT............. we have to see where this "new era" tax relief on us is going to take us ... opposition has to say what they say as they are the opposite ion! They want it to fail to get a chance of being in charge!! I have an open mind
Thanks for that, I was wondering why the conference started with everyone singing the national anthem, I didn’t realise it meant the party we’re now advocating abolishing the monarchy… silly me !
? uuuummm just in case! It is not Starmer exactly but the party within the party that have been trying for years .. they dont go to conference but have their own "meeting up"
Sorry , I thought your post was about the conference, maybe because your first sentence stated that it was… silly me! edit Oh and you also said it was one of the key things that stuck out to you about the conference, which doesn’t make sense because, a) the conference never mentioned abolishing the monarch, and b) it opened with everyone singing the national anthem.
their conferences usually never begin or discuss either. The singing of the new anthem was frowned on by some but they did not heckle it which was stated the parting of the Queen was the instigation of the national anthem as a mark of respect, that brought out the republican labour party supporters to mention the monarchy ............. its all in print on about 4 or 5 different media outlets thatI have perused ....
no wonder we are in a mess with such attempts at humour. Talking of humour .. just how farcical, comical is the Italian election system even though someone tried explaining it on the radio I ve still not worked it out! THE one thing that was very apparent the comment of one respected observer " if you want to be a far right party in power then you hope a vast majority abstain" then named 3 or 4 countries who in the last 3 -4 years has done just that.......... less than a 60% turnout??? [ not checked any facts yet ]
It may be a fringe issue, but that’s all. All political parties are a broad church, and encompass many different views, it is certainly not Labour Party policy, or even close, which your post implies.
Really ??, this was your previous post… Hey ho conference season .... Labour first!!!! day one 2 things stickout . [re ] RISE of the republican labour party that wants to get rid of the monarchy and to have an elected president who would be in charge of all things the monarchy does, so basicallythe end of the commonwealth???? No shrooms consumed Humph, well not by me, but possibly by you ?
commenting on news media published banner headline comments referred to 45P tax issue and the republican labour raising the issue of the monarchy, and qualified that they do not attend conference [ generally ] and they didnt be disrespectful of E11R passing nothing to do with party policy .. as stated republican labour party policy .. who hold separate conferences... but are party members.... on the shrooms issue denial is probably down to guilt of using ? ... I have never ever partook of any illegal drugs not even a puff on a discarded spliff ... seen a few victims though and very sad ....
a nice cup of cocoa [ I like the mint Belgian one ] in a pint pot/ mug, then a nice sleep in a comfy bed usually does the trick! ..lol Did you hear the helicopter your house last week over 20 mins.. after midnight
asked a couple of neighbours today how many extra NHS staff could be employed with the reintroduction of the 45p as that "how many NHS staff would be employed extra if they did that" .. answers were 10,000 6 -7000 AND 15,000.. ! I explained it was not all of the 45p as the ones not paying 45p still pay 40p! ... and could still be some extra but likely less than 500 .... maybe 4 or 5 per hospital! and yes it is some extra staff but we need about 2000 + In contrast to the Conservatives' tax cuts for the wealthy, Labour would invest in the NHS and the "industries of the future" to create a stronger and fairer economy, she said. WHAT I cant understand by this comment is how these top 600,00 earning £150k to £1-2m can with 5p tax fund all that without using the whole 45p ....
I know many on here will disagree, but with the Tories positioning themselves towards the right, if Labour can position themselves as centre left the next election will be interesting.
I’ve said before and it’s still my opinion; we’ve never had such a **** shower of incompetent imbeciles to choose from to run our precious country.
From Corbyn to Starmer, from May to Johnson, from Sturgeon to Drakeford, oh then we got that bumptious little twonk Ed Davey..... please log in to view this image
