Wasn't aware, until the other day, just how closely Calyx is related to my old fave, Fair Eva. The dam of Calyx being a sister to African Rose - the dam of the legendary, Fair Eva. For that reason I'll be looking out (and cheering on) the offspring of Calyx.

When I wrote this at the end of April I was fully ready to be proved wrong. Calyx had had a few runners and more important a few winners and things looked rosy for him. Here we are nearly 10 weeks later and he's had (in UK/Ire only) one more winner and few more runners. That says something to me and that is the horses are not running because they either don't like firm ground or they are not able to be worked on the gallops or they are just not very good. In UK/Ire he has had only 15 runners and 3 winners, while Blue Point has had 45 runners and 14 winners. Blue Point had about 60% more foals than Calyx, which is more but not 3 times more. Meanwhile my outside tip Advertise is having a poor time. In fact he's had 22 runners and only one winner.
Malc is a big runner for, Calyx tomorrow, in Newmarket's Group 2 July Stakes. Currently the 4/1 second fave for the race. He's also got another runner in a Group 2, at the course, on Friday - Persian Dreamer.
Will the filly do any better this afternoon??? With Star of Mystery in the field (currently 2/11 and that quote is hardly surprising given how potentially brilliant she looked last time out) a win looks most, most unlikely. However, it looks a decent opportunity for Persian Dreamer to nick some black type (see what I did there?!?). She only needs to beat one home to do this, afterall!!!
Well Calyx got his first Group 2. I'll be unkind and say the rain helped. Well done to the trainer though.
Really didn't expect to see that victory (against the 1/6 hotpot) but top marks to Calyx and that really is something to boast about for the old boy. He actually has yet another Group 2 runner in France on Sunday - the unbeaten (2/2) Classic Flower in the Prix Robert Papin.
