I wish they’d done something better with the collar on the second kit, like they have with the third would be perfect
Have I missed a signing? what position does he play? I like the colour, not sure about the pattern, already been compared to Eastern Counties bus seats!!
He's called Effie for short and he plays as a DM, except that he doesn't because our tactics don't suit a DM. Back to football, here's Wagner's comment on Placheta: "From the start to the end, it was a solid performance as a full-back. I think he can be a good winger for us, but he can be a very good full-back for us in the way we like to attack. He has shown this in pre-season games, and in training sessions as well. Today he has shown it in a competitive game, so this should give him a lot of confidence as well. For us, we know that we have very good competition in this position, and a good alternative as well."
Injury wise, looks like Sorensen, Tomkinson and Sainz will all be a available after the international break. Onel ruled out of Sunday's game.
Farke teams never get off to a good start. I think some of the uncertainty over players, some refusing to play etc doesn't help squad harmony
They also don’t have a fully fit striker with Bamford out injured and Rutter just back from injury. It was a fairly familiar story for a Norwich fan, Leeds controlled possession and pushed WBA into a low block but struggled to break down the defence.
Reminds me a bit of life after Maddison. Some new and existing players stepping up just when we needed them to.
Three games in we have three players in WhoScored's Championship top 10: 1. Gabby Sara 4. Josh Sargent 7. Jon Rowe
In contrast, here's Ashley Barnes on our tactics and style of play built up through the positive preseason and coming to fruition now: “That’s the good combination of our play. We can change formations throughout the games, and I heard them (Millwall) shouting at themselves because they didn’t know who to pick up. That is a credit to ourselves because we know how to get into those positions. It’s about setting high standards everyday and then when you do in training every day then it’s easy to do it on the pitch. Everyone knows their job and their roles. Whether you are on the pitch or the bench, we need everyone and that’s the main thing I learned at Burnley. This league is relentless and you need everyone.” https://www.pinkun.com/sport/norwic...arnes-hopeful-canaries-can-keep-josh-sargent/ Ben Lee sums it up like this in his tactical analysis for Millwall : "Norwich continue to reap the rewards of their tactical and individual improvements. Having had a full pre-season with a refreshed squad, the influence of Wagner and his coaching staff is becoming clear. The German has implemented a clear, yet adaptable, philosophy with players perfectly suited to the roles within his system. Dean Smith was reactionary without a clear philosophy; Daniel Farke was ideological without adaptability, but Wagner appears to be striking a balance between the two, combining his clear philosophy with the ability to adapt to opponents. Given the nature of last season, Wagner’s impact is nothing short of a transformation." https://www.pinkun.com/sport/norwic...-city-3-1-millwall-ben-lee-tactical-analysis/
Interview with George Long posted today if anyone is interested. I looked at his stats from last season - 36 games, 12 clean sheets, conceded 38. Not too bad, Millwall fans seem to think he cost them a play off place.
While other players grab the headlines, Ian Clarke highlights the impact of Ashley Barnes after stepping into the big shoes Pukki left behind: "Already what he does with and without the ball and the positive influence he is having is making such a difference in the team and showing he is a vital cog to allow others to thrive. I watched him at both ends of the pitch on Sunday and he does so much dirty work which may not be noticed but was key to allowing the creativity in the team to thrive. Barnes is providing a key link-up to City's attacking play - encapsulated in Rowe's beautiful opener. Last season, too often there was only one route to goal through Teemu Pukki - now there are many more options and Barnes is at the heart of that. I love his unselfishness and his quotes after the game summed up his outlook. "For me, as long as everyone is putting in performances and we're winning as a collective, that's all I can ask for. I couldn't care less if I didn't score all season but the team got promoted at the end of the season - that is what I'm here to do." Barnes brings such experience to the squad which will be invaluable for the likes of Rowe, Sargent and Adam Idah to learn from. He hasn't had a glitz and glamour career - he's certainly worked his way up and earned his stripes. Paulton Rovers, Eastbourne Borough and Salisbury City were among the clubs he played for before joining Brighton and then Burnley. Barnes knows all about graft." That kind of graft was missing under Farke and Smith and Clarke isn't the only one who sees Barnes bringing a Holt like influence to the whole team. Wagner has praised him for his influence on other players and that is making an impact on the pitch as well. https://www.pinkun.com/sport/norwic...larke-ashley-barnes-key-signing-norwich-city/
Ben Lee's tactical analysis of the Millwall game is now available to all on his website: https://ncfcanalysis1.wixsite.com/ncfcanalysis Having read enough of these now, I'm beginning to see the tactical subtleties live on the pitch during games and it adds a lot.
"For me, as long as everyone is putting in performances and we're winning as a collective, that's all I can ask for. I couldn't care less if I didn't score all season but the team got promoted at the end of the season - thatis what I'm here to do." That's the kind of attitude I love. Someone who clearly understands there is no 'I' in Team. Long may his influence and his hard graft and attitude continue.
I must admit that my first thoughts when we signed Barnes were pretty negative, but after ours and his start to the season, I am more than happy to be proved wrong. Our new "Holty"
Wagner presser updates: -Onel out for 2 games or so, probably back after the international break -Sainz and Tomkinson hopefully back in contention after the international break -Sorensen's surgery went well, will be back in training over the international break, so probably a little behind Tomkinson and Sainz -Placheta back in contention, he's over a hamstring strain -Lima is an academy signing as far as he's concerned
