Here is a photo of Leighton James with Leighton Phillips - taken, ‘fittingly’, at the recent Swans v QPR game <cheers> (Leighton James played for QPR)

I know Leighton Phillips pretty well, we live in the same village. (As an aside, his father and mine were great pals, during and after their footballing days)

I was reminiscing with a friend just the other day about Leighton, and how exceptional I thought he was. Perhaps I should have kept my mouth shut.

Several years ago I bumped into him outside Sainsbury's in Gorseinon. As he walked away, I was moved to tell him what a great player he had been. He stopped, turned around, smiled, said "thanks ", and went on his way.

He's being referred to as a winger, but he was much more than that. He could play anywhere up front. In fact, he could probably have played in any position, including goalkeeper. He was a phenomenal talent. Those who didn't see him play missed out on a rare treat.

Thanks for the memories, Leighton. I'm really glad I bumped into you.

Phillips looking uncannily like Bobby Charlton.

What a game that was, great atmosphere and a pile driver of a goal from Leighton. I don't think Grobbelaar saw it. Such sad news regarding Leighton.

Just announced that Terry Medwin has gone. He played for The Swans' late 1940's through until mid 1950's as a free scoring centre forward. Preferred to play as a winger but The Swans' had Len Allchurch and Cliff Jones on the flanks , so to get a game, Medwin went centre forward.
He signed for Spurs, as a winger, and was soon followed by Cliff Jones. The great Spurs' side then had two ex Swansea Town wingers.

Swansea-born, Terry made his debut for the Swans in 1949, and was a key player for the club and played 30 times for Wales and scored the winning goal in the 2-1 win against Hungary in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.

He was transferred to Spurs for £25,000 in 1956 and was part of the Spurs squad that won the league and cup double in 1961 and the FA Cup again two years later.

His career was ended by a broken leg suffered while playing for Spurs in 1963.

My late father first played for the Swans Reserves in April 1949 whilst he was still at NBGS.

Not sure if he played alongside Terry but he did know him.
