Can't wait to see him playing again ... if he can stay relatively injury free that's a great signing for the Spuds ... OK put in the shade a bit by us bringing in Cengiz Under at the same time ... but nonetheless...
So #spursy to hype up their new signing and then reveal he's crocked and won't play for at least a month. When did Bale last have a consistent run of games anyway ? Spurs fans reckon he's gonna walk straight back and start tearing up the league, I'm not so sure. He's been in and out of that Real team and only scored something like 3 goals last season. And now he's got to get up to speed with the PL, after another injury. And this time he's 6 years older.
He's naturally quick ... and also very good ... the fact that he didn't get playing time at Madrid sits with Zidane's stubbornness mostly ... Zlatan handled the pace well, as did an ageing Cambiasso for us ... good players tend to ...
I’ve always like Bale as a player, and in his prime he was incredibly good. I enjoy watching great football so I’d like to think he can return at 31 and add something to the PL. However, the more I think about this move, the more it reminds me of Rooney returning to us. He was also 31 and whilst he did OK in that one season he had back with us, he was a shadow of the player he was in his pomp, and we let him go in the summer.
31's nothing in today's game to be fair. 10-15 years ago you'd probably turn your nose up at someone of that age but there's tonnes of players in Europe who are still regarded as some of the best in the world that are over 30. Lewandowski best centre forward on the planet and he's 32, Ronaldo (35) and Messi (33) still the best players on the planet, Ribery and Robben were still embarrassing defenders in the Bundesliga at like 33/ 34, think Ribery's still playing now in Serie A. Injuries aside, I reckon Bale's got at least 3 years of elite level football left in him. ****ing buzzing to have him back tbh.
Bale was lightening quick when he was in the Prem. Whether he’s still as quick remains to be seen, but his injury problems are surely going to impact on that. Add to that that there are now a plethora of super fast players in the prem. So it’s not a unique attribute anymore.
It is when combined with finishing and nous .. and Bale has it all in that regard ... now stop plopping yer pants ... you've still got Ozil ...
Aubameyang is 31 too and he’s the best striker in the Prem right now. He’s had a fairly charmed life though in terms of a near perfect injury record, playing in Germany where they’ve always had a winter break and with respect to Gabon, he’s not had to endure long international tournaments either. So he’s fresher than most at 31. Also as you say, the fitness levels these days are so much better than 10-15 years ago, so it’s perfectly reasonable for elite players to stay at the top until they are 34-35
