F1 drivers won't take a knee before the race tomorrow, as they couldn't all agree to do it. Apparently 5 drivers voiced concerns, partly due to the political nature of the gesture in some countries, and (Benson...) "because some did not appreciate what they saw as Hamilton's accusatory tone in his social media messages asking other senior figures in the sport to issue anti-racist statements " Curious where the gesture has particular political concerns which would make it awkward for drivers. Russia?
Those that want to take the knee most certainly should. Those reluctant to do so should do what they feel is right. We can all judge it from there.
Am I the only one who thinks Lewis is in danger of coming across as a bit of a bully ? Lewis Hamilton says some drivers' reluctance to take a knee before the Austrian Grand Prix is down to a lack of understanding of racism. F1 drivers will take a collective stance against racism before Sunday's season-opening race, but some are not comfortable with the kneeling gesture. Hamilton said he had made his point to the drivers at a meeting on Friday. "I described the scenario that silence is really generally complicit. There is some silence in some cases," he said. World champion Hamilton added: "But I think it is part of a dialogue of people trying to understand, because there are still some people who don't fully understand what is happening and what is the reason for these protests and I continue to try to be that guide and try to influence as many people as I can with it." https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/53294057 Also the fact he walked into the circuit with a big chain and padlock around his neck was SAD IMHO . I am NOT saying the BLM movement is wrong , but I think he needs to calm down a touch .
yep, Black Lives Matter has nothing to do with racism, it’s a Marxist Antisemitic Anti Capitalist Anti Police movement, which is why football and others are now distancing themselves from it
I'm glad, F1 has nothing to do with American Football, Trump, the confederacy and was never involved with slavery. I'd also like Lewis Hamilton to tell me exactly what being black has stopped him from doing, because if the sport was racist how is he there? Personally he should take a look at the anti-education pro 'thug-life' 'black culture' he advocates to see where the actual problem lies, but he's too busy being victimized. According to my black nephew, the white kids were the only race who weren't racist to him at school.
So Red Bull have protested both of their cars onto the dirty side of the grid, bold move, let's see how this pans out. Adds spice to an otherwise potentially dull race at least.
So, Bottas' race to lose. With two races in a row here he could get his championship challenge off to a flying start this week. Love to see a McLaren on the podium also, with all their financial worries I bet it would really help them.
I tend to believe someone who tells me what their experience is. How do you know what discrimination he has faced? Now is not the time for white people to blacksplain. I reckon it’s time to listen. Taking the knee has become a way of acknowledging black issues. And whatever Lewis’s experiences, it’s about black lives in general, not just his own.
