Lot of people in Consett voted for leave some would not support corbyn and some were complacent, after all there has never been a tory here. Laura Pidcock was fine as a representative unfortunately circumstances have dictated that she is no longer a rep for us. I am not a labour member but I will be shortly and I hope she will be the next candidate for north west durham. I went to work this morning and was embarased that people in my constituency had voted these ******** who have NEVER helped the north east in. I know that many of you on this thread live outside the UK so please don't comment or more importantly f**k off and worry about your adopted country

This ended up as it was always likely to, as a Brexit Election.
The second referendum we never got.
And the public, or close on a majority of them voted once again to leave the EU.

Quite a number of MP's who went against the views of their electorate got a kicking.
GOOD.
It's a great example to our political masters that in the end, it's us that's in charge.

If you have any complaints, aim them at the incompetent fools who so misjudged the mood of the country.
But don't, under any circumstances, blame those that cast their votes as honestly as you cast yours.

I agreed with every word of your post until the daft bit about ex-pats at the end. I still care about where I come from and have family & friends (who I know will now have to put up with five more years of the ****ing Tories) who have sent me various texts during the day about how pissed off they are, so hey, I'll comment. It's a GE thread on a Sunderland board and all the ex-pats are Sunderland fans.

Amazing that 2 nations who have set the gold standard in being liberal democracies now have leaders at their helm who have set gold standard for lying, misrepresenting and disregard for the weak, poor and needy in our society. People like these that believe by reducing basic human services, excluding certain races and cultures, giving tax breaks to the wealthy and spending big on military will make us better off.
Hitler did all these things. That worked well

I went to school in Consett. Grew up nearby. My parents still live in the constituency. It's an area I care about. I was surprised that they'd voted the Conservatives in there because, as you say, it was always a safe Labour seat. From what I've heard though, Laura Pidcock was not a patch on Hilary Armstrong.
While some people will have voted Conservative because they want to leave the EU, some will have other reasons. The notion that because someone voted Conservative, they don't have a social conscience, don't care about society, don't care about the poor, the disabled, minority communities is unfair. In fact, that is one of the main tropes of the Labour propaganda: "we're all lovely and will take care of you and they're the nasty party". For some people there will have been other reasons for voting Tory and the main one is Jeremy Corbyn, as many Labour activists have said. While there is a lot in the Labour manifesto that is good and, indeed, desirable, the huge, expensive promises don't add up. Surely logic suggests that that kind of profligate spending and the borrowing that will be required is dangerous. After all, it was national debt that meant austerity was required in the first place. Why would people vote for short term spending only for the situation to get worse again in, say, 5 years time? Then there is Corbyn himself. He's alienated people with his stance on the military, the national anthem, and the queen and the leader-cult that I mentioned in an earlier post is, frankly, disturbing. The vitriolic and bizarre adoration of him on platforms like Twitter is weird. I totally understand why people didn't vote Labour with him in power. I don't see how anyone can place their trust in such a man.
Good luck with your foray in to politics. It's not something I would ever do. I hope that NW Durham does have a Labour MP again soon but desperately hope that it's a candidate and a party that offers a realistic alternative to the Conservatives because the country needs it.

This country, this world, is deeply in the ****. Now is not the time to create more division, either with glee at supposedly winning, or anger at supposed defeat. Johnson has the numbers to vote through legislation and the country has to hold him to account for the things he promised he would do if he won.

This country has led the way to world reform and maybe we can again, by uniting in trying to tackle the real danger to all of us....human pollution and global warming. Without that focus, we will leave a legacy of hot air, calamity and dust for our Grandchildren.

While the Crusader armies undoubtedly did commit atrocities, one of the main reasons for the crusades in the first place was a response to the wars of expansion of the Seljuq Turks and other groups in the area which were threatening the kingdoms of Syria, the withdrawal of safe passage for (and massacre of 3000) pilgrims to the city of Jerusalem, and the threat posed by the Seljuqs to the Byzantine Empire

I don't think that you have thought all of this through.

Boris has made pledges that he is going to be held to. Particularly about The NHS and care for the elderly.

Compared to the other promises, Brexit is going to be his easiest job, but if he fails to deliver, and what Party has ever fully delivered on Manifesto promises, the next time round, at most five years away, all of those ex-labour voters will come back along with the floating voters.
By then, hopefully, the Labour Party will have got rid of it's extremists and returned to the left of centre that so many of us favour.

Boris is going to have to show political skills and statesmanship at levels previously unsuspected, to pull this off.

Of course IF he succeeds, the whole Nation, you, me and even the Mad Woman up in Scotland will rejoice.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it rolls out, but I'm NOT holding my breath.

By the way, your crusader jibe missed out the fact that they also slaughtered the Jews.
There is a statue of Richard the first outside of The Palace of Westminster.
As far as I can recall, he is the only King on display in this prominent position.
If the leader of the Third Crusade is good enough to be the symbol for ALL of our MP's, (even Jeremy), it's a bit picky to criticise a poster on here.
You should also consider that the meaning of words changes, particularly over the centuries.
Crusades mean something rather different today to what they did when Richard was tearing Palestine apart.
Just think about Billy Graham and his 'Crusades'.

On the plus side, Boris has such a huge majority that he won't need to pander to the far right of the party and can adopt a moderate, central approach.

PS Already sick of the sound of Nicola Sturgeon demanding a referendum. It's only 4 years since the last one, if they secede will they have another one in 4 years time to see if they want to come back in?
