I'm quite fond of History in that it often tell us the future.

In Political terms it tells us that the British People don't vote for left wing extremists, or a party portrayed as being just that.

Boris won this election with the support of Jeremy.
The members of the Labour Party who put him in charge pretty much guaranteed years of Tory Government.
And the Tory's couldn't change this even when they gave the leadership to Bonking Boris.

Jeremy's history was always going to be a problem. Accusations of antisemitism I suspect were very damaging.
After all it's a very small step from claiming that it's ok to persecute the Jews in the Party to doing the same to other minority's.
And this was not JUST the press. I've seen and heard members on TV gloating when yet another, long serving Jewish MP says they couldn't stand again.

Put simply, the Labour Party has lost it's inclusivity.

The whole situation reminds me of Maggie's first win against Jim Callaghan, following 'The Winter of Discontent'.
The Party didn't learn any lessons from that, and the Tories stayed in power for 17 years till middle of the road, Tony Blair came along.

If you feel that you must refer to Black Shirts and Jackboots, though, perhaps some passing references to the Soviet Stalags and Stalin's purges might add some balance to your point.
Go even further if you wish and include the efforts of the East German People, (or most of them), to escape a left wing system by tearing down a rather large concrete wall.

My good news for YOU, is that history teaches us that The Labour Party will be back.
Any party in Power for too long gets carried away, or some of their members do. (remember the Hamilton's).
They, (Labour) will get their house back in order.
When is up to the Membership, but it's no good blaming the rest of us for last night's result.
The BLAME rests with those left wing members of the Party who put an unelectable Jeremy in charge.
Trouble is how long before they learn. John Mcdonald mentioned he would like it to be a woman. Fair enough. The names mention so far have bean from the left wing cabinet . When will they ever learn. It will be interesting to see how much the left wing of the party try to hang on.

Don’t think there’s a strong enough character in them to take the left wing of the party on, especially momentum.

And perhaps, just perhaps, that's the root of the problem.

Politically correct claptrap.

Why not INSTEAD go for the person of whatever sex, orientation, religion or outlook, that is most likely to deliver a majority in Parliament.

It used to be said that Golda Meir was the best MAN in her Israeli Cabinet.
The same about Maggie with her UK Cabinets.
And lets not forget Indira Ghandi in India.

But these Ladies didn't get selected because they were ladies.
They got selected because they were seen to be leaders who could WIN.

However, not that it's any of my business at all, I'd suggest that Jess Phillips would fill all of MY requirements.
Sadly though she would only fill one of Mr McDonald's.
That of being a WOMAN.

She's young, in political terms, (38), no fan of Mr Corbin, has a mind of her own and some very earthy language.
At present she lacks experience but the same can be said of just about every member of the Shadow Cabinet.

The problem, as I understand it, though, is that Momentum now hold so much power within the party that they will again try and force one of their left-wing candidates in.

Aye, I enjoyed seeing Alan Johnston laying into them but doubt it will make a difference as they come across as a bunch of deluded ****wits who won't accept people like me were never going to help to put Corbyn in power.

I'd probably have voted labour (my postal vote form never arrived so I couldn't vote) but I did vote leave, so much though bits of having Boris in charge gets me anxious, I am glad in a way that the grinning twat Bercow's constant attempts to stop Brexit are now for nowt. Just wish he was still in the chair, presiding over but unable to stop, the Brexit progression. Still wanted a softer Brexit like

I lived in the Eastern part of Slovakia - near Kosice - beautiful country and people (been married to one nearly 30 years now)

I love Czech women. Lived in Prague for 2 years. Any plug i saw was a tourist. Could never understand why the women were lovely and the blokes slobs. I learned a canny bit of the lingo too, but all a distant memory now.
