The socks and shirt are fine. I´d love Saints in that outfit, although black short are fine, and also matching the win % of Atlético this coming season (My tip for La Liga).
There's a historical story behind that, isn't there? Something about them looking for a kit and taking our striped tops back to Spain, but having to take blue shorts as they were the only ones available. Or is that apocryphal?
It was Athletic Bilbao who came to the UK in search of a it, liked Southampton´s and adopted those colours for aforementioned club. Atlético Madrid were started by a group of Basque students in Madrid so kept the red and White stripes, but in order to look different from Athletic, adopted the blue shorts, or so the story has it.
Sunderland like to get in on that story, but it makes no sense to travel that far north. If Sunderland had a case so might Exeter, Brentford, Stoke or Lincoln City, and anyone else I've forgotten.
Oh yeah, Sheff Utd. Yeah, I read about Notts County and Juventus only recently. I wonder which other teams have adopted colours?
While looking to see if there was any new news on our kit, i somehow ended up on the original release announcement from before it was delayed. Then i noticed this sentence: "Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, our delivery of baby and infant home mini kits is delayed. We are working to rectify the situation and will provide an update as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. " Pretty familiar wording. I don't remember anyone mentioning this and i completely ignored it at the time, like i imagine most did. This reason i thought to mention it is that this implies that there were already having some sort of kit delivery issue and it may well have expanded to include the main kit. To me that sounds like more of a manufacturing problem than a sponsorship issue as you would think a sponsorship issue would be immediate and absolute? Just a thought.
We're all guessing. Meanwhile mine arrived from UA this week (without sponsor logo which is pretty cool). Nice shirt - much nicer than the images suggest. Good quality though some of those fat bastards will have difficulty getting through the small neck hole (had to undo the button!)
https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/...-southampton-football-club-201920-kit-release Nothing really new, a statement apologising there's been no statement. Glaringly there not even a hint of a estimate as to how long it will be until the kit is released. They do say they will give out a statement next week though. so hopefully we will know what is happening before the new season. though it seems me may be starting the season with no kits. "We will give a full update to fans during the week commencing Monday 5th August."
U23s wore the kit last week at Eastleigh so I would suspect it’s only replica kits that are the problem
