The FA are in contact with Huddersfield over their shirts.

Regardless of all of this, I think Paddy Power (and the club) have achieved what they set out to do.

I much prefer it, but as with everything it's such a lucrative avenue for clubs it ain't going nowhere anytime soon.

It's the reason that my favourite Saints kit of recent years is the sash, also sans sponsor.

Can someone post a pic for those of us whose employers block PP's website.

Paddy Power have announced that their controversial ‘sash’ sponsorship of Huddersfield Town was just a prank – as they reveal the actual shirt the team will wear this season.

Despite expectations that the bookie would simply reduce the extravagant logo in size, they have instead removed it entirely.

That’s because Paddy Power are today launching the ‘Save Our Shirt’ campaign, where they are calling on brands to stop sponsoring football shirts – including fellow betting companies.

The intention of Paddy Power’s hoax jersey was to shine a light on the issues around shirt sponsorships – given the coverage and criticism of the sash, they’re clearly not alone in recognising the problem.

This season, more than half of the teams in the top two divisions will be sponsored by a bookmaker – with 14 Championship teams bearing a betting brand’s logo.

As a result, Paddy Power have relinquished the space on the front of the Huddersfield Town shirt, which they would be due as title sponsor, and are encouraging others to do the same.

Paddy Power MD, Victor Corcoran, said: “Shirt sponsorship in football has gone too far. We accept that there is a role for sponsors around football, but the shirt should be sacred.

“So today we are calling on other sponsors to join the Save Our Shirt campaign, and give something back to the fans.

“As a sponsor, we know our place, and it’s not on your shirt.”

They have also donated their sponsorship of the club’s training kit to the Huddersfield Town foundation.

Same, but I don't think they will. Clubs could easily provide a lot more exposure to the main 'shirt' sponsors without their logo appearing on shirts. It could appear on all videos/pictures/multi-media that's released by the club for example, or be more prevalent elsewhere around the ground (more so than already). Maybe on the inside of the kit, on the label perhaps so the club's fans still see it. I just think that most sponsors won't do this because of the global TV audience that will see their name on the front of kits.

It doesn't help that our current sponsor has a woeful logo and spoils the kits, but even so, the main reason I rarely buy a Saints shirt is because of the big sponsor all over the front (and the price).

Do betting sponsors not breach the new 'whistle to whistle' advertisement ban, or is it just 'live' adverts so shirt sponsors n boards etc. are unaffected?

So a betting firm gets more publicity by removing its sponsorship and we all read about it and praise their moral stance.

    That gamble paid off!

Very clever from PP as usual, a great bit of publicity and a cause which will have huge support from fans at a time when public opinion is turning against them.
