Fantastic from England, but I can't quite believe how poor India have been. Lack of preparation for the conditions is a big factor, but **** me they've been poor considering they're World No1.
Got back from me hols this morning so today was the first opportunity I've had to watch any of this series. I saw an interesting stat regarding Adil Rashid, he's the first England player in thirteen years to play in a winning test side without getting to bowl, bat or take a catch. The last was Gareth Batty against Bangladesh also at Lords in 2005.
Welcome back, Nines There were complaints that Rashid shouldn't have been picked because he hadn't played any red-ball cricket. That now seems like perfect preparation for this game.
Cracking good win....saw a stat that only 168 overs were bowled in the game less than 2 full days play..... I'm not sure any touring team would have coped with the way England bowled in those conditions a masterful display of swing bowling....
England certainly had the best of the conditions, but they were so dominant you get the feeling that we would have won (albeit a lot less easily) even if Kohli had won the toss.
Cheers Strolls I heard that he had a bit of a dust up with Michael Vaughn after he criticised Rashid for declaring that he wouldn't be playing red ball cricket at the beginning of the year.
Just been watching a bit of the CPL (the West Indian 20/20 league) and almost every element of the game seems to be sponsored by someone or other. A six is not a six, it's a 'Hero Maximum' (they never actually say someone has hit a six), a spectacular catch is a 'Something or Other Bank Classic' and even the intervals are 'Carib Drinks Breaks'. Sickening.
Stan - I know T20 isn’t your thing but after watching tonight’s Sussex v Glamorgan fixture it’s definitely not all about the batting A Tymal Mills 20-3 (Hatrick) and a Rashid Khan 12-3 helped bowl Glamorgan out for 88......a true bowling master class.
I watched some of that, Stainesy. Rashid Khan is a fantastic talent, I hope he gets to show it in Test matches. Another great prospect playing for Sussex is Jofra Archer, who was sending it down at 94 mph off an ambling run-up of about 12 paces. Sadly, even though he has an English father and a British passport, he has to wait until 2022 to qualify for England. He will undoubtedly play Test matches for England, though.
Totally mate......some real talented bowlers there. Khan is probably the best spin bowler out there at the moment by a long way, with something like 7 different variations to his bowling....he’s often totally unplayable. Again, agree about Archer.....a great young talent who can only get better.
Isn’t there a good bowler who has a bad back and can only play T20 because he can’t bowl many overs? Meanwhile Stokes is not guilty and the other bloke was let off too. Of course I am in no position to comment on this judgement, but I am confused as to how it now appears that having a fight in which two people end up unconscious and one has his eye socket broken is not against the law. Surely someone (not necessarily Stokes) did something illegal during this incident?
The bloke with the bad back is Tymal Mills, who, as Stainesy mentioned, got a hat-trick last night. He just goes around the world earning a very nice living bowling 4 overs a night in 20/20 tournaments. Sussex have a pretty formidable 20/20 bowling line-up with Mills, Rashid Khan, Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan. I don't think the Stokes incident should ever have got to court, really. It seems that neither side wanted to bring charges against the other, so Old Bill decided to charge them all (excluding Hales for some reason) with Affray, which wasn't proven because it requires the general public to fear for their own safety. It was the sort of thing that goes on in every town centre pretty much every night of the week, and, if there hadn't been a celebrity involved, would have been quickly forgotten. The two gay fellas (who, for some strange reason, weren't called as witnesses) are in the papers day thanking Stokes for coming to their defence. He certainly did seem to take things too far, though. More importantly, should Stokes get straight back in the side for the next Test, which starts on Saturday (ffs)?
Wow.....never knew that about Mills having a bad back. As you say, he earns a nice living from T20 cricket
