That appears to be this layout. It was when the new slick tyres were being tested mid season 2008. It seems that the time gain is through lateral grip and traction as opposed to top end high rev terminal speed - which was obviously expected with up to 30+ points of downforce and the associated drag. Will be interesting if we see less lap time gains on high speed tracks like Monza?
I think it will be very interesting. the cars are carrying it through corners but a lot of drag is being called out by all.
given they went all day on mediums i would assume at some point this ferrari will do a race sim shortly.
35 laps and counting for McHonda. I really do hope they have a fix in soon so they can start running full power. Must be so frustrating for the team.
Make that another lap-time improvement for Sebastian Vettel, who breaks the 1:21 barrier to stop the clocks in 1:20.572 and return to second place on the timesheet. That's Ferrari's fastest time of the test, although still four tenths slower than the Mercedes on the same compound this morning.
Thats pretty darned inpressive compared to last years cars. Whether its as quick as hamilton might do later today i dunno.. but its damned quick period. I just think both teams have another second min in their pockets
There could be hope for this years championship yet! Now all we need is the RedBulls to throw in a decent lap time..
If we at least see a split on the front row i'd be over the moon. Bottas behind vettel kind of thing... its still a bit early so do we think that 0.2 second improvement by bottas on ultras really shows the cars true potential? to set sub 1:20 on softs emans there must be a 1:18 dead i nthese cars if one of them really pushes.
Too much power on the exit by the looks of it. Costing Williams dear in lost time (and parts). Get Massa back in that car so they can do a full day. Unlike Max, he really does look like he's come up too early.
Maybe faster than that, this is the first 3 days, the deeper into testing we go the more rubbered in the track will become, and the warmer it will get
Exactly, compared to where this track will be come 7th/8th day of testing, it's gonna be night and day difference. If it warms up a bit more + more rubber on the track, that's at least .6 maybe more of a second there! They'll have more aero bits to plonk on next week, I expect them to find maybe another .2 may .3 of second there and towards the end of the second test, they may also turn the engines up a bit, there's another .3 and not run quite has heavy (assuming they're running more fuel than they would in their recent quali sims.) so another .3 for fuel effect, works out around maybe at least 1.5 seconds of pace in there.. if the McHonda is still plodding around in the mid 22s by then, they will be right royally ****ed!
