As Horner said, milage will be low as they have to balance between speed and engine life, means we will see lots of non action during free practice I think.
HI guys. Sorry I was not on site in a while. Was doing a Rosberg and spending some quality time with my baby girl...By the way did anybody notice Ferrari's front bouncing a lot similar to what McLaren used to do a few years ago? Or maybe it's an illusion..lol. But it looks like the front is bouncing a lot to me. I hope the four top team are equal...I just want to see some good close racing, with breathtaking overtaking. Hope I am not wishing for too much..lol
Merc very fast but it's all about race pace on those super softs/softs on Sunday. Hoping the front 3 are actually closer than it appears in headline times.
By the way how any of you stay up with Croftys sleepy "commentary" I do not know! Why can't they move him into the studio because it's obvious this is a char show and not a commentary with him
Palmer in the final turn: Vettel interview suggests to me Ferrari running conservatively. He keeps saying tomorrow and Sunday matter. Hopefully they have the pace turned down like Merc. Also little issues and not nailed setup perfectly yet so I expect closer tomorrow, hopefully within a couple of tenths of Mercedes.
I dunno.... seems to me exactly what was expected has occurred. Hamilton just cannot lie. He was far too calm when saying ferrari favourites so i feel merc expected this totally. Vettel... i dunno. I think he might have more in it but so should bottas and certainly hamilton should. Red bull.... well they brought new aero which is good. Not as radical at side pods as ferrari but at least they brought some and recorded a fast timr in p1 on supers.. seem to be 3rd best still.
They should seriously think about scrapping Friday practice. Teams are so concerned about the component limits that some will only do a handful of laps to save on mileage, and others will barely do fast laps. Why not just have two short practices on a Saturday morning? One for race trim runs, one for quali style runs?
Watching p1 now. 1. Cars look so big out there. The merc in particular looks super. All cars look ace From rear. 2. Sharkfins and t wings ruin the look. Try just look silly really. The haas one looked made of straw and pointless. 3. I concur on red bull front wing. Deffo flexing in slow mo shots. 4. Torro rosso is best looking colours as per testing. 5. Forve India looks ridiculous
Not seen any of the FP sessions.. A quick one off time is all well and good but anyone got any long run figures? I do hope they're closer than .5s difference in one off lap pace.
The way I see it, with all the simulators and testing rigs they have the at the factories, the cars pretty much turn up at the tracks all set up for that circuit. So what is the real point of extended practice sessions? For new drivers who haven't raced at a circuit before, maybe go back to allowing them the option of an extra hour or so to learn the circuit so they are not at a massive disadvantage, but even then most will have spent hours on the simulators. Is it solely now to get an extra days TV and media coverage? What does it really give both the fans that turn up at the circuit and those who watch it on TV?
If they wanted to improve the show they should exclude Friday from parts usage. It would be a pain swapping the pu and gearbox every Friday night but I guess it would be worth it. The teams have to balance risks these days. Setting the car up 0.1s faster but at the cost of a pu change later in the season.
Did anybody else notice that the cars were just too quick for the cameras, through high speed sections. I really hope Qualifying will present a different story. As we all do.
