I think it was a reporter for Canal Sport on Twitter. But it turns out the FIA statement was photoshopped. That's the problem these days, it' so easy to fake news.

I'm even more disappointed now that Mr vettel went grovelling.

Another let's all feel good moment when two guys tearing each other's heads off is perfect for races

If he'd have shown up there and not been contrite then he would have wound up with further punishment.

Wonder if they had cake and candles for him? :)

Yep. Candles were Ferrari red. No big surprise.
I'm glad Vettel clarified his calculated lack of integrity to the world. I agree with MITO that such a grovelling apology is less than admirable. He should have come clean in the first place.

Anyway, the outcome goes some way to avoid devaluing this year's WDC in the eyes of the world – so long as one of the following becomes true:

    • Vettel wins by a margin greater than 14 pts.
    • Hamilton wins, regardless.
    • Neither driver wins, regardless.

I'm sure that once he had time to really consider it that he realized that it didn't look good. The only real option he had was to acknowledge that and offer an apology, so I certainly don't see it as grovelling. Fair play to him.

I don't think it really has any impact on the outcome of the title either since it was a fair penalty and despite that he still extended his lead. On we go now, though I really hope the sparks continue. :)

They look pretty weak honestly. In essence he's been been rewarded at this hearing. Free exemption from the road safety PR campaign.

If that's all they were going to do i'd rather they have just said "the stewards decision is final" straight after Baku or something, rather than the equivalent of a mother forcing a naughty child to apologise.

At least we can all move on now and focus on the racing i suppose.

I'm sorry but I can't agree with this at all. I know it's sometimes difficult to see the other opinions, as our press as so bias.

I wish I could find the map that I saw where it was showed country by country if Vettel should have a further sanctions or not. It was UK, Spain and an-other that thought he should get further sanctions, the rest of the world said it was enough. So "in the eyes of the world" it looks like the majority thinks that justice was served and hopefully when Vettel wins this years WDC "in the eyes of the world" we will see his as a worthy champion.

IMO the main thing is Vettel dind't apologise on the day and had no idea why he got the penalty.

this grovelling sniveling fake apology all for the FIA to be seen to have done something is fake as **** and an example of whats wrong with all sports these days.

The bangs wheels. one guy got a punishment... man the **** up and ram into each other this weekend again. thats what I want anyway. get on with it now.... no more of this fakery.

that goes for hamiltons high horse too....

I don't really venture anywhere but here, but from what I've seen here, people haven't exactly been rabid when it comes to calling for further punishment. We've had a mostly reasonable debate with some differing opinions, but that's the point of places like this. :)

I still maintain he dodged a bullet when it comes to the black flag he could have easily got, but he didn't get it so that's kinda redundant now.

After all these arguments...did anyone see how close the safety car was when Hamilton got to the line???? Anyone realised that if Hamilton had taken off when Vettel wanted him to, he would have caught up with the safety car and got a penalty himself...even a disqualification? And that is what the Mercedes team was warning him about...how close he was to the safety car for the first restart. From what I gather from pit to car conversation, the worry was not about Hamilton backing up the field, it was more about him too close to the safety car on the restart. But hey, everyone is entitled to alternative facts...lol

    From Lewis Hamilton
Should slow the bunch up in one go to give the car time to get around.

    To Lewis Hamilton
Stay with the Safety Car, ten car lengths.

    To Lewis Hamilton
OK Lewis that was pretty close on that last restart.

    From Lewis Hamilton
    Close to what?

    To Lewis Hamilton
The Safety Car, and Safety Car Line One.

    From Lewis Hamilton
    Trust me, it wasn’t.

    To Lewis Hamilton
    OK, copy.
