AFRICAN FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR SALAH.

Salah wins CAF African Player of the Year award

Mohamed Salah has been named CAF African Player of the Year for 2017.

The Liverpool forward beat off competition from teammate Sadio Mane and Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to land the award, which was presented at a ceremony in Ghana on Thursday evening.

Mane finished second in the poll, improving on last year's third place, which went to Aubameyang this time around.

The recipient of the prize was decided by a combination of votes from head coaches and technical directors of CAF’s national teams, members of the organisation’s technical and development committee and a panel of media experts.

Liverpool's No.11, who was also crowned BBC African Footballer of the Year last month, enjoyed a memorable 2017 and has scored 23 times in just 29 appearances for the Reds following his summer transfer from AS Roma.

On the international stage, he helped Egypt reach the Africa Cup of Nations final in February before inspiring his country to their first World Cup finals since 1990 by netting twice - including a stoppage-time penalty - to secure a 2-1 victory over Congo in October.

    Two perfect results for us:

Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs all got only one point. So we are putting some distance with 5th and 6th while keeping 2nd and 3rd within our sights. The best Christmas/New Year we could really have hoped.

All we need now is not repeat the January we had last year :bandit:

Getting maximum points from that past two games proving pivotal in giving us a cushion.

It's been a really good few weeks for us (despite the Arsenal draw).

If we had won that arsenal would all but be out of it.

We would be level third with Chelsea and have scored more than them so would be 3rd. On 46 points

They would be on 38 which would be 8 points back.

Still can't complain really you are right, fabulous position right now.

Strangely enough I see both Arsenal and Spurs improving their form in the second half of the season. Which means keeping up with them and their results. The CL matches will take a toll if we progress.

For me, it is amazing how the gap between the so called top 6 and the rest have grown wider since last season. I can see them winning all these matches and it will come down to who will drop the smallest number of points. The only exception might be Arsenal deciding to focus on the Europa and gettting a CL place via that route.

It is really going to be a tight fight for the remaining three places.

yeah arsenal have a good history of totally imploding and then going on a fabulous run. I however am interested to see how they cope with the amount of football they have. League cup fills up January for them. basically two games a week. then the europa starts back up with the round of 32 wedged in and that makes thier feburary busy too.

Spurs are well capable of a run thats far better than 2 points a game.

I agree with you. the gap between top 6 and rest is huge for the past two years. This has certainly pushed the points for 4th up form the 70 mark. Will it be sustained? I don't know cos while arsenal have the get out clause of the europa that they are more than capable of winning to add a 5th CL team again this year that still doesn't mean all top 6 get CL next season and that means... oh oh... someone is going to miss out and then vultures come circling.

The points at the bottom have dropped slightly. the entire field from 10th to 20th is covered by 9 points meaning really anyone of them could go down. 7th placed burnely had a good run there but have fallen off the pace now but 8th to 10th is 5 points.

Its interesting.... last year 35 points would actually have been safe. but 7th to 17th were covered by 6 points total in the end. 46 to 40 points. That is why the top 6 were so high in points. the top 6 harvested up all the points.

I think we are seeing the same thing again. 9th (everton) to 18th (stoke) are covered by 7 points.

The team that finished strongly will zoom up the table in that midfield imo. and the same will be for the top 4. A big strong finish is required, not crawling along.

(so selling coutinho is madness utterly)
